October 24, 200421 yr Maybe I don't understand something or missed the discussion on the subject.Several times now I have heard the "bong" signaling that I'm "out of physical memory" and before I ended of the flight.Last night after the ND football game, on only an hour flight in a Citation X from South Bend to New York City, upon landing and exiting the aircraft with the active camera function, I ran out of "physical memory". I've gotten this window before I had active camera so I can't blame it on that.I have 1024 MB of Ram and half the 120 GB space left on the hard drive. I used FS Autostart. The page file usage on the task manager shows about 500-600 MB when the flight is loaded and ready to go. When I have gotten the "out of physical memory" window the task manager had about 915 MB on the page file usage, I presume windows XP is using the rest.I have my addon sceneries inside FS9. Question, when I load a flight is the entire FS9 program loaded and using up my RAM?. I also have USA roads, FS Water etc. What would happen if I removed all of the not used airplanes and scenery from inside FS9 and only used what I needed? How would that affect my page file usage and the amount of my physical memory? thanks
October 24, 200421 yr Sounds like you have a serious memory leak.First, have you installed the FS 9.1 patch? That corrects some memory leak issues with the default.xml autogen scenery. If you installed the FS9.1 patch with something like the no-CD hack installed and then restored the default.xml, you may not actually have the FS9.1 executable. A lot of folks that were using patched files (fs9.exe with the no-CD hack, panels.dll modified by one or more add-on panels etc) thought they had a successful FS9.1 install, only to find later that the patch installer skipped the modified file without telling them, and they really didn't get the new patched MS code installed. Check the version numbers and make sure they're from 9.1 and not 9.0 (see other posts in this forum for specific version numbers).Otherwise, you'll need to do some troubleshooting, selectively removing add-on sceneries, and/or other modules and running with an eye on the WinXP task manager to find where the leak is ocurring.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
October 24, 200421 yr I have gotten this as well and I also have 1GB of RAM. I find it curious that you got it with the Citation X. Is that from Eaglesoft Development Group? I have only gotten the "your computer has run out of memory" message when using the Citation X from Eaglesoft. I posted in their forum and they just stated, "No problems reported during beta" and told me to just use the "light version". Well, I found that answer absurd but apparently they feel they have no issues with that plane though I beg to differ. They won't investigate it so your out of luck if that is in fact what plane you are using. I would suggest you go to their forum and post however. Eric
October 24, 200421 yr Author Thanks Bob.I use the standard fs9.exe with the CD. I forgot where I saw the version number but it was 9.1. My install of the patch went without a hitch. I had to re-do some of the cfg entries to tweek the terrain settings back. I found a few bad numbers in some of my settings and I think it is looking real good now. I wasn't reading the default.xml until I checked the file name. It has to be named "default" without quotes and that's all, no ".xml".
October 24, 200421 yr Author Yes Eric, come to think of it I think it has only been with the Citation X from Eaglesoft. This is going to require some experimentation and observation. I've got their other Citation as well. Thanks
October 24, 200421 yr Darryl; I wonder if you have the "Hide extensions for known file types" option checked in the WinXP folder options? If so, the file name will be displayed as "default" (WinXP is actually in this case hiding the ".xml"...but the full file name should be default.xml If several of you are getting out of memory errors with Eaglesoft Citation X as the common factor, I'd encourage you to move all your extra dlls from your modules folder to a temp folder, and run FS stripped down in an area with no add-on sceneries...no weather add-ons, nothing but the ESDG panel and FS9 (and FSUIPC since its needed for the ESDG panel). You can try forcing page swaps by switching views a number of times, and see if the RAM commit rates start climbing and staying high. If so, rather than just mailing it to ESDG, post the specifics publicly in one or more forums they do not control *and* mail/post it to ESDG. A memory leak is a serious problem, and its existence needs to be documented in the public domain. It took quite some time for PSS to acknowledge that some users had a serious memory leak on the first release of their A330/340 panel...the public outcry finally produced action. As I recall, the PSS problem was specific to ATI Radeon cards...what sort of video are you gents using?OTOH, maybe that memory leak is just an FMS trying to break free? :-bigangelCheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
October 24, 200421 yr Before I bought and ran both Active Weather 2004.5 and the Symflyer's Toronto scenery, I had no issues with my system or RAM. Now, with 1GB of RAM, I can't fly 20 minutes when I get the BONG, out of memory!!!What gives?I have never had this issue with W98SE. I am running XP Pro.Mitch R.
October 24, 200421 yr Hello Everyone:Maybe (somehow) Windows XP has gotten into a mess and is not managing your Virtual Memory Correctly (with 512 - 1 GB RAM; it really shouldn't matter but...)Try this: 1) Right Click My Computer - Click Properties2) Click the Advanced Tab3) Under Performance Click Settings4) Click the Advanced Tab5) Click Change6) Change the radio to "System Managed Size"7) Click Set - then OK - Then OK (to the popup) - Then Apply - Then OKWith 512 MB - 1 GB RAM Windows should never really have to dig into the swap file - but you never know...
October 24, 200421 yr Author Bob, I'm running an ATI 9800 pro 128MB and Windows XP pro.Re hide extensions, The file was named "default.xml" in my folder. I didn't see any barns. I renamed it "default.xml.bak" and left it in the folder. I then imported a new "default" file from FS9 CDs and didn't see an extension but it works.
October 24, 200421 yr Author Dan, I did what you recommended, we'll see what happens. It was set to custom.
October 24, 200421 yr I also have the ATI9800Pro card. Hmmm...sounds like the same issue PSS had with these cards. Great, just great! Eric
October 24, 200421 yr I will give this a try as well....mine was set at 1536 and 4072.just FYI. I still find it hard to believe I can run the PMDG with full bells and whistles and not this one. Eric
October 24, 200421 yr >Before I bought and ran both Active Weather 2004.5 and the>Symflyer's Toronto scenery, I had no issues with my system or>RAM. Now, with 1GB of RAM, I can't fly 20 minutes when I get>the BONG, out of memory!!!I was having a similar problem with the PMDG 737NG - I kept on running out of memory. The thing is, XP and most programs running under it like to use a lot of memory. So, although you have 1GB of RAM, XP is also using virtual memory which uses space on your hard drive to simulate extra memory. So, in my case, I had filled up my hard drive, so XP wasn't able to use this for virtual memory. Check your hard drive for empty space. If you have less than 1GB, it might be time to do some housecleaning, or buy a bigger drive.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
October 25, 200421 yr Author Eric and Dan, After setting my system to let it manage itself, I took off in a 310. In spot view the scenery studdered about every second. Very noticable. I went back and set it up for custom. I forgot what the custom settings were. So I used 1533 recommended and 1534 for max. The scenery smoothed right out in spot view. What should I set the max at? I noticed Eric had 4072 for a max setting. Is there a rule of thumb for the max setting?
October 25, 200421 yr Hi Martin!Actually, I have a 250 GB drive that has less than 14 GB used on it. I don't think that might be the problem. I do not KNOW what the problem is...but will do the hunt thing later on today when I have some time to play...Thanks for your input.Cheers!Mitch R.
