October 27, 200421 yr How about UPS and DHL. Pan Am as well http://www.flypanam.com/JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
October 27, 200421 yr Thanks for the replies. I was pretty sure that there were 727's still haulin trash. Still wondering whether any of the major carriers have them. I have seen pictures of the bone yard and they are full of United 727's. Did Northwest get rid of their 727's?Just wondering, I wanted to pull out the 727 from my FS hangar and take it for a spin. Was wondering about current routes.
October 27, 200421 yr None of the majors are flying 727s anymore. The only passenger 727s still flying in the US that I can think of off the top of my head is Champion, but they are all charters.
October 27, 200421 yr I believe all the majors here in the US have retired them (along with the DC-10's; other than NWA), after 9/11. I see FedEx 727's at Denver fairly regularly. The newer airlines ("no-frills") never had then, AFAIK.Interestingly saw in an aviation magazine a year or so ago, the Cougar airlines in the UK? run some for frieght and covertable for charter, and have re-engined the 2 "outboard" engines to that on the MD-90 (still retain the original in the center-line position though).I'm on one of the departure corridors from Denver, and I do miss hearing them. Loudest beast these days is the MD-80's :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
October 27, 200421 yr The plane's passenger hauling days were numbered by the need for three guys up front, three engines to maintain (vs. two on the ubiquitous twin jets), and the three-holer's extraordinary ability to turn jet fuel into noise, both in large quantities. It just couldn't keep up on the fuel efficiency front. If 9/11 hadn't been the last straw, the current high prices of jet feul would have done the trick.
October 27, 200421 yr The only ones I can think of is Champion Air, Planet Airways, Kittyhawk Cargo, FedEx, UPS, Amerijet, Pan Am III, and DHL.

October 27, 200421 yr Hello All, I think that there is someone out of Miami maybe? using the Pan Am name and flying to Central and South America . . . at least I heard that rumor . . . small operation but the name has survived. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. On the subject of the 727, I do believe that shortly there will be a 'new' 727 on the block from a highly respectable source, (like you can't guess), and with any luck it should be out before Christmas. Oh, did I say that out loud? shhhhh!OK, well, having said that, I will also say it blows any other 727 right into the weeds for authenticity, flight model and 'gagets'. And, lastly, it is a absolute gas to fly! And, on the advice of my attorney I respectfully decline to answer any more questions on the grounds that it may incriminate me.Best to all,Clay
October 27, 200421 yr Author Commercial Member You're right about PanAm (operated by Boston-Maine). I've got a video of a Carnival Air flight from Miami to Newark, but I'm sure they've gone now.The nice thing with 727 routes is that as more and more 727 end up with smaller cargo carriers, the routes are endless. Then of course there's the 727 bizjets :-)In the UK, I live near a small airport that I think aside from GA, has scheduled flights with BA to Jersey (that's Channel Islands) during the summer. But, it does have a flourishing business in aircraft maintainence which means there's always a few 727 in there. Often DHL or UPS, plus quite a few that are just plain white with a reg number on. The real treat is that there's almost always a 707 in there too :-)http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
