Altn Destination Feature

Featured Replies

Me being a bit of a techy, this feature really excites me for various ungodly reasons

If you go to the Atln page, you'll see the FMC automatically picks Alternate airports - these are also viewable on the ND with AIRPORTS selected and have an 'A' around the airport donut. However, you can add your own alternates and get very precise fuel and time calculations. But that isn't what gets me ticking - it's the fact if you're heading within a 180 (thereabouts) degree radius of x-airport, they'll appear with arrows to airport with the ICAO and Nautical Miles.

This will be good for people like me who hate flight planning, just pick whatever is there lol

A<380 love at first flight

Luke, I see you on VATSPY again today!  Did Montreal CTR say anything about your beta?  I'll see if I can coax Winnipeg CTR online for you.  Hows the flight today?

Quick question.  Can you hide the yokes as in the NGX?

No- he just sounded really happy to speak to me. I KNOW the real Montreal CTR isn't like that right now  B) Very smooth thank you! However I'm expecting a few CB's once I cross the US border..

It's not as of yet. Not sure if that's being added or not. The real aircraft has a much smaller and lower yoke than the NG. My viewpoint in the picture isn't high at all and can see all screens etc perfect!

That's a slick feature Luke.  I thought you might have used it earlier to try out that Icelandic pizza or burger you mentioned, but that's a no go now.

This is great and exactly what I thought.  If they aren't blocking anything then why add the hide feature?

Thanks!

Luke,

I'm a controller at vZKC. If you want to divert to MCI, I can get online. And no need to thank me....it's my pleasure.

Hehe - thanks for the offer, Ron. But I'm keeping committed to LAX after 7 hours ;-P

Question about that "alternates" feature. How many alts will it show on the ND? If, for example, you were flying into KJFK, with many suitable diversion airports in the general area, would they all show up on the screen? And if so, how do you reduce the clutter?

You have four available. Only manual alternates appear on the ND with the arrows - the automatic ones appear with the "A" in the airport donut (like you see for CYYX on my ND) and also it's on the first line in the FMC. You'll see it's in a smaller font than the rest - the automatic ones have small fonts then the manually entered inputs have larger fonts.  If you enter one and delete it, it'll go back to automatic mode. Very similar to how the Nav Rad page operates if you tune a manual VOR and delete it.

To get any of them showing on the ND you must have Airports selected on the EFIS panel. Hope that helped somewhat!

*EDIT* Sorry - only the top line has <A> next to the ICAO Code.

Freighter tomorrow Luke?

Tomorrow will be a day of complete testing around KPAE - so yes! I'll be doing a lot of failures etc.

Hey Luke, can you please do me a favor? How does the split autothrottle switch work? Does a right click move each individually and a left click move them together? Can you take a screenshot with one disengaged and show the PFD? thanks!

Bryan- we're just over two hours away from Los Angeles, not sure my crew will be happy if I do it now (-;

It's split, so two different switches you click on/off. However during normal ops they should be left in ARM at all stages of the flight. If you turn one or both off, you get an EICAS message saying so.

As for the PFD - the FMA will turn to either "L THR/SPD" or "R THR/SPD" depending which AT is off. I'm doing a bunch of non-normals tomorrow - so I'll snap some shots for you!
