August 11, 201312 yr Hello all, After installing FS9/FSX payware aircraft like the Hampden, Whe running the engines it seems as if the propellor "disc" cuts through the scenery. It is as if the scenery in the disc area is removed. I hope I explained myself clear enough. Does anyone know the answer, or have the same experience. I thought I had seen something on the forum on this, but I could not find it any more. Thanks in advance for your help Regards Hanss

August 11, 201312 yr This has been asked often and here is a link to explain things as well as how to get the most out of converted FS9 planes to FSX planes. Don't expect too much... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ptaylor/archive/2007/12/31/how-to-upgrade-the-propellers-in-fs9-aircraft-for-fsx-sp2.aspx Good luck.
August 12, 201312 yr Hi, The link provided by dolph98 contains links that are no longer active. Regardless, it contains info on how to make a prop transparent and specifically states that it does not fix the cloud problem that you have. It does tell why the cloud problem is not repairable by conventional means. I only posted this because of my concern that you might get hung up researching the bad links before you got to the cloud reference. Jim F.
August 16, 201312 yr Author Hi Jim, Thanks very much for your warning. Indeed, I could not find the files. However do you know where to find the answer? Regards Hans
August 16, 201312 yr Hi again, Here's a quote from the link that dolph98 provided: "One thing that this cannot fix, or even make worse, is how clouds and/or autogen display behind or though the prop disc(s). Short story is, that's an artifact of FS9 vs FSX modeling and texture assignments, and display techniques, and it simply will be what it will be until an FSX-specific version of that aircraft is created." I don't know why this is. Jim F.
August 17, 201312 yr Hi, sorry for the bad links. Didn't cross my mind as I've had DXTBMP for years. For the record, here is a current link for DXTBMP: http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm And here is a current link for MWGFX.DLL: http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/graphix.htm These programs work very well - I use them almost daily to convert back and forth when I do my repainting. DDS is what I use mainly in FSX, although it works as well for extended bitmap files as in FS9 painting (don't have FS9 installed anymore but that's where I cut my teeth with these programs). I don't convert planes so this prop disc problem does not bother me. I also do not know why the clouds cannot paint through the spinning prop. As stated in the link, it will be what it will be.
August 17, 201312 yr Hanss, do you mean like this ? If so, check your Hampden textures folder. I bet you have prop_3.bmp, but not prop.bmp or prop2.bmp ( could be .dds, but the file names will be the same ). Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 17, 201312 yr The late, and greatly missed, David 'Opa' Marshall wrote a tutorial on this. Available as prop_fix.zip from the AVSIM library. John
August 17, 201312 yr I don't think this is the usual prop disc problem with FS9 port overs. From the way Hanss describes it, it could be the same issue I had - two missing prop textures. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 20, 201312 yr Author Hello Paul and John, I have indeed prop_3.bmp. I did download the file john describes and will try that as well. Paul, could you tell me how to get the proper prop bmps? Thanks very much Regards Hanss
August 20, 201312 yr Hanss, but do you also have prop.bmp and prop2.bmp ? If you do not have them, message me your email address, and I'll send them to you. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 21, 201312 yr Author Hi Paul, I don't think I have them. Don't know where to find them to be honest. Would they also work on other aircraft from fs2004? My email address is: [email protected]. Very grateful for your help Regards Hans
August 21, 201312 yr Hi Paul, I don't think I have them. Don't know where to find them to be honest. Would they also work on other aircraft from fs2004? My email address is: [email protected]. Very grateful for your help Regards Hans Hanss, not a good idea to post your email address in public - thats why I asked you to messsage me with it. No matter, its done now.. The three folders you are looking for are:- Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\ALPHA HP Hampden\texture.1 Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\ALPHA HP Hampden 1\texture.2 Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\ALPHA HP Hampden 1\texture.3 Unzip, copy and paste the three .dds texture files I've sent you into each of the three folders. You'll be replacing Prop_3.bmp, and the other two files are the ones that are missing. Look for an email from Akagi...hope this helps Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 24, 201312 yr Author Hi Paul, You are absolutely right. I realised this after I send te mail to you. Too eager to respond:( I will report when it works. Regards Hans
