August 19, 201312 yr Commercial Member Now, I'm off to write my Congressman about my house being underwater because I put it on a floodplain. Best regards, Robin.
August 19, 201312 yr Favorite coffee shop conversation overheard: Girl 1: "You know, the other night my flight almost got diverted to Dulles because we almost came in after the curfew. The airline wouldn't have known what hit them once I got them on the phone to complain!!!" Girl 2: "Oh yeah? That would be terrible. [etc.]" Girl 1: "Yeah, there's just nothing good about any of it. I was out with [i'm assuming husband's name] out on our balcony last night and we kept getting interrupted by planes. It's terrible! It was too late for them to be flying." Me: [internal double-take and dialogue] Wait. So you say you almost ruined the airline's world for diverting to another airport to not bust a curfew because people complain about the noise, and then one minute later complain about the noise, but only because it wasn't your plane trying to get in later at night...wow. [/internal double-take and dialogue] "Hi, yeah, I'll have a venti Americano, no room, please." [/RANT] (and I've even had my coffee this morning...) LOL! I share you view on that topic. We have a curfew here at FRA since about two years and it sucks. I just can't imagine how this got through legislation... A friends of mine who flies the MD-11 for a major German airline once complained to me how annoying it is to arrive early in the morning after a 9+ hour flight just to get told by the ATC to "hold at TAU untill it's 05:00AM"... ...I mean just think about how much more CO2 is emitted because of that. With kind regards, Bogdan Misko.
August 19, 201312 yr My response is always:"Washington Dulles International Airport - 1962 Your House - 2001 That's bad, but not even the worst of it. There is lots of shenanigans going on in the UK about the future of airport capacity around London, including two primary options of expanding Heathrow by adding a third runway and additional terminal(s), or building a brand new airport on reclaimed land in the Thames estuary as described here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19570653 Bare in mind that going for the latter will likely result in closure of the former, now refer to the website of the council in which Heathrow is located here: http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/index/transport_and_streets/public_transport/heathrow.htm In the middle of a gigantic economic catastrophe, the council are quite possibly arguing for 110,000 people and 10% of their own working population to be made redundant. The mind boggles. Jordan Forrest
August 19, 201312 yr Commercial Member That's bad, but not even the worst of it. There was a little of the same in the SoCal area. We had a perfectly good airport to use for additional capacity in the area, and instead of taking advantage of it, they made it into houses. Gotta love CA...they really are the royalty of royally screwing up their aviation resources. Apparently the resource conservation they're so in love with doesn't extend that far... Kyle Rodgers
