August 29, 201312 yr Thanks, Howard. I'm so puzzled with this. Have sent Samsung Support an email. It shows up healthy in Device Manager; Samsung's own SSD Magician software shows the drive listed under its drive letter; Disk Management shows the drive to be healthy, and yet I cannot see the drive size, or its contents. When I click on it I just get I/O device error. And to think I used this drive to back-up all my downloads. I feel like chucking this SSD drive and a brand new unfitted supplementary US-bought SSD 256Gb drive, same make and model, into the nearest stream, except I'd get done for pollution, knowing my luck! Have you made sure the SATA cable is fully seated? I know it's a long shot but maybe possible. I am using a Samsung 840 500Gb SSD and never installed SSD Magician. I know all I had to go one was the number of happy purchasers reporting on various sites and these drives scored well. Noel, that was precisely why after Custom PC and Micro Mart scored this particular drive well, that I purchased it. Just sent Samsung Support an email reporting this drive's failure. See attached images. Drive O is the Samsung SSD. As can be clearly seen, Windows 7 Disk Management is reporting a healthy drive yet Windows Explorer(My Computer)shows the drive letter as 'Local Disk' when I had actually named the disk 840 SSD. Let's see what Samsung Support who are not exactly renowned for being prompt in their responses have to say. Fingers crossed, Rick Almeida
August 29, 201312 yr Samsung 840 PRO 356Gb SSD Update Just had a response from Samsung's Support over in Holland. The drive is faulty and they are going to issue an RMA. Never mind that I stand to lose 256Gb worth of photographs, videos taken this summer, as well as my FSX downloads. I have learned one bitter lesson-----never to invest in any more Samsung products. Should have learned my lesson when their NV-8 and NV-10 digital cameras went pear-shaped! Rick Almeida
August 29, 201312 yr Author Hey Rick, glad you got it sorted but sad you lost some of your data. Perhaps I could suggest Acronis.... for a small investment it gives a lot of peace of mind. August 29, 201312 yr Hi Howard. Thanks for that. Just received an email from those Dutch-based Samsung Support people, and it seems that they have been pressing Samsung for years, to provide a professional data recovery service, but it seems that Samsung caring more for its profit margins rather than the abject quality of its products, has declined. I have Acronis but will recover data from a dead drive? Rick Almeida
August 29, 201312 yr OCZ Vertex 4 512 - rock solid, sorry to hear about loss Thanks Rich. I'd have gone with OCZ except I got my fingers burned when one 2Gb RAM module/stick from their OCZ Black Reaper HPC RAM 2x2GB kit that cost me over £100 went down, and despite a lifetime warranty which they are quick to brag about, all they were prepared to offer me was a mere £20 refund AND I had to return the good working RAM module as well. Eh? Come again? What's that all about? Never mind the £80 loss but a perfectly working RAM module too? Which is why I will never go near an OCZ product again, not for all the tea in China. The worst part is all the recent USA Trip photographs of Las Vegas, Grand and Bryce Canyons, Kodachrome Basin, Utah, Arizona, West Canada and the Arctic glacial Icefields were on that drive. Forgive me if I go and hang myself in a quiet corner! Rick Almeida
August 29, 201312 yr Dam shame Rick about that loss - as for ram - ram is a crap shoot. always have my fingers crossed buying them, as for refund always buy from newegg and I return to them no problems never deal with manufacturer, good luck. You Should reconsider one of the best hardware purchases I ever made and I have made tons of them Rich Sennett
August 29, 201312 yr You Should reconsider one of the best hardware purchases I ever made Thanks, Rich. By that do you mean OCZ Vertex4 512Gb? If that is what you mean, I will bear your wise advice and buying skills in mind. Rick Almeida
August 29, 201312 yr It is this one but price is crazy - I think I only paid 400 $ shop around look at the reviews tons, well looking further into this seems there is not many around and one who has it now has raised their prices quite a bit imagine that - found 1 on ebay for 429.00 but that's it unless you want to pay quite a bit more so you may want to see if something else can work for you. http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Technology-2-5-Inch-Industrys-Warranty/dp/B007RARIF6 Rich Sennett

Forgive me if I go and hang myself in a quiet corner! Hey Rick, depending on how important your data is (was) you could use a data recovery software which are freely available. Better still, although quite expensive but more efficient, you could use the services of a data recovery company. I lost a project a couple of years ago, about 6Gb of photography (don't ask me how, long story) I took it to a company in Bristol and they retrieved 99.9% of all my material. It cost me about £250 though, but better than having to tell the client I had lost there entire wedding day!!! BTW, the drive had been formatted (I said don't ask) so there are some options open to you. The only downside though, is that the more times the drive has been accessed since becoming faulty, the less likely it is that there could be a favourible outcome. The first thing I'd do matey is get yourself some data recovery software and see how you get on. Who knows, you could be luckier than you think. August 29, 201312 yr Data recovery is very very expensive and most times it only brings back some of it most being images, I tried this and what a waste of money but hey you never know, forgot about that option Howard but I would not expect to get back much, lost years of flightsim addons and maybe got back 15% and even some of that stuff was not complete.
