New User: 2 major problems PLEASE HELP!

True, but I have found myself to make fewer mistakes this way and I also have to start other addons before the flight

The problem how to start an IFR flight with Vox has come up several times on this forum (perhaps it should be pinned to the top). The procedure given by mhlarsen certainly works but it is not necessary to start FSX twice:1. Create a flightplan with any application saving a .PLN plan in FSX format (eg FACTFALE_737.PLN).2. Start FSX, select aircraft, select airport and gate. Do not start your flight yet!3. Select FSX flight planner and load FACTFALE_737.PLN. Say no to move aircraft.4. Save the flight as FACT-FALE or something appropriate (creating a FACT-FALE.FLT file).5. Now start your flight, enable Vox and you should see the Vox window with the ATIS frequency (if the airport has ATIS).BTW: I got it from the manual.

Yeah I also ended up doing this and not loading it twice and saving flights. LOL still havnent checked for the STAR though, when I was flying to FALE I saw on my FMC 40min into the flight that I was flying to FAPE instead lol so I just ended the flight cause the flight plan was to FALE and I couldn't load the FMC in the air. Might try to fly today if I'm not to busy.

But another problem I got is that FAJS (Johannesburg International) has been changed to FAOR and since I'm doing most of my flying in this area it sucks cause the cyle I have now has FAJS as FAOR so for FAJS I wouldn't have any SID/STAR's and I read somewhere that ICAO codes are hard coded into the game and its not easy changing them. Not a major train smash though but JNB would be the most appropriate one to have SID/STAR cause its the busiest airport in Africa.

Another one I just thought of now, An airport with two parallel runways Voxatc would choose the other runway for Take-off, the one furthest from the terminals which is not the case ofcourse in real life

This happens and the easiest way I have found is to change this in the Navdata.

How so?

How so?

Search for FAOR and replace with FAJS (2 files i think). And this has to be done every time you update your Navdata.

That won't help the fact that airport related data reside in FSX sceneries.

The topic is discussed here: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/74567-icao-code-johannesburg/?hl=icao

Wrong, ofcourse it can be changed.

I had the same problem with Coffs Harbor in Australia that changed from YSCH to YCFS.

I did the following for the PMDG J41 Navdata:

Open file Airports.dat with notepad.

Found entries YCFS and replaced with YSCH.

Open file wpNavAPT.txt with Notepad.

Found entries YCFS and replaced with YSCH.

This worked without problems.

I don't want to rename FAJS unless its neccesary for what I want. What i want is for Voxatc to issue me SID/STAR's when I fly in and out JNB and hopefully my AI too.

My problem though is that with Fsbuild I can only do a flight plan to FAOR(which has SID/STAR's) but then would Voxatc realize I'm actually flying to FAJS? And if possible, to do that for my AI too so they can be assinged SID/STAR's into JNB

Michael Henrik,

Of course, you can edit the navdata files (each new AIRAC cycle!) but that does't affect the scenery file for the airport ( a .BGL file). If you can live with the discrepancy that's fine.

If not it gets more complicated: If you have an airport editor (I have AFX) you can open APX88420.bgl, change the ICAO code for the airport from YSCH to YCFS  and save it to a new .BGL file. I'm not sure but I guess this will confuse AI traffic.

@Kusta: In your case the file to open would be APX55410.BGL.

I think this should be discussed in another forum since it is not specific to VoxATC.

Regards,

Andreas Gutzwiller

The scenery for Coffs Harbour at that time had not changed from YSCH.

If this happens, then other edits as you describe is required.

Is it possible for me to edit the Fsbuild and LevelD navdata to change FAOR to FAJS?

Never mind people figured it all out, I get SID and STAR's in FAJS now and so does my traffic :) Thanx to all those who helped and especially Mhlarsen who helped me figure it out.

Happy Landings :)

Having a real hard time getting vox to work. I used to use it all the time with 737 but I had EFB on a trial version. Now when I try to load my flight plans generated by FSCommander I can't get vox to sync up. The flight plan shows in fsx when I pull up the nav log, and vox knows my destination but it keeps saying the flight is vfr not ifr To make matters worse it gives me a jumbled up message to read and I can't even get clearance for departure. I'm trying to use the 777 with vox.

Are you starting your VoxATC session with a saved flight, not just a loaded flightplan?
