FSX folder alone is 150GB not counting all the 3rd party external folders on my hard drive.

 

Perhaps remove addons?

Disable any photo scenery you are not using in the Scenery Library, thats the biggest culprit

AI aircraft

Yeah i have a lot of photoscenery. I fly often in those areas though so perhaps turn them on only when i fly there.

 

AI traffic i just moved out of airplane folder into AIaircraft folder. Seemed to help a bit.

 

I have FSX on it's own hard drive which i just defragged and i have preload off.

Remove all aircraft and/or liveries that you will not or are not using, they can just be set aside and put back at any time.

btw the gauges of course are left behind in the gauges folder but that is irrelevant to the start up speed.

Hi, I agree with all the above - they do work, but the biggest improvement I found was to disable the AV scanning, (after disabling your Internet connection of course - unless you REALLY need online weather updates)

This improved my load times from 10 mins or more to around 2 mins.

Agree with the SSD.

easy solution is not  to shut down fsx
