November 17, 200421 yr I am using W98se and have a succesfull installation. However, when I try to start the program I get a warning that the Windows path cannot be found. It seems as though the program is searching My Documents file for the path. I simply put it in my C drive. Any ideas? The help in the manual is limited.

November 17, 200421 yr Reccomendations for better operation of your system: If using W98, ME, et.al. Upgrade to XP it will virtually eliminate "Blue Screen Errors" Ive only seen one in two years. If you have other Crashes with the FS, it will eliminate most of them, your entire system will operate much better, and faster.IF you are using XP, without SP2, installing it will give you a frame rate boost, and make many other improvements. The FS was created with XP, and the FS patch was undoubtedly created, with SP2 installed. If not using XP, by all means upgrade to both, there are too many reasons to do so, to repeat here. Do a Google search for "RegCleaner"Set the "Options, Registry Cleanup, Method" to Automatic. Then, click on "Tools, Registry Cleanup, Do them all." This will delete all _invalid_ registry keys, etc. First time I ran it, it deleted 287! Even if you have Norton One button cleanup, it does not get them all. Ive run it after running Norton, and found as many as 17 invalid links. (Running norton after RegCleaner can result in finding 3... so I use both.) Each time you add or delete something from your HD, it can leave an invalid link. Even something as simple as deleting a picture you no longer want. Over time, they can slow your system to a crawl. I run it each day after deleting anything. Find if deleted from Control, Remove Software, the majority of the time it leaves links to what was deleted. Many software demo's or paywares which gives you a free trial, leave links in the registry, to prevent you from using it over, and over. They also even leave folders with junk in them. You can get RegCleaner free, I've used it with W98, ME, XP, and I'd not do without it after using it.If not using Adaware, and Spybot, its a good idea to begin. They can get rid of a LOT of programs which tell companies where you are surfing, and more. Each time they do, is slows down your system as they use bandwidth. If there are hundreds of them on your system, the time they use is significant. Removing spyware, can also leave invalid links in the Registry, so run RegCleaner after doing so, I'd run it at least once a week. Sometimes I run it daily.... It makes your operating system work the way it should. There are so many possible causes of problems, in the FS which are basically caused from invalid links in the Registry, its not possible to list all of them. Every time I have a problem with the FS, first thing I do is run the RegCleaner. Bob
November 17, 200421 yr I am having the same problem as well. I also run "Regcleaner" regularly like Bob said. Maybe it is time for me to upgrade...FSW2004 looks good from the screeshots and I do appreciate all Chris is doing for our hobby.
November 17, 200421 yr Also having path error re: My Documents and Application Data. Added the runtime files, did the check= mod. also tried running from within the FSW folder but no help. I know upgrading to XP from 98se would be nice but everything I've ever installed generally ran w/o a hitch so that's not an option for one package that won't run. I'm sure it's fixable. I'll just sit back and see if there's a fix to be made.JimBob
November 18, 200421 yr "If using W98, ME, et.al. Upgrade to XP it will virtually eliminate "Blue Screen Errors" Ive only seen one in two years"Regarding 98SE and Blue Screen errors, that wasn't what this thread was about--no need to campaign for XP. For some even a $100 O/S upgrade isn't an option--they are stuck on older hardware, O/S's or both by need or by choice.I have systems with 98SE, Windows 2000 and XP--systems that I support professionally, and systems I own. Last time I saw a Blue Screen in 98SE was in 2001--after a HW install with the wrong driver set. Although I've almost eliminated all of my 98SE systems in the field, support wise, lockups were no more frequent than the 2000 and XP boxes. All of your advice is sound, mind you--I just don't think it fits in the context of this thread. Quite a few of us are Windows experts and/or professionals in the IT field. This sounds like a software vs. O/S support issue, one which I suspect Chris will easily resolve or offer a workaround for.-John
November 18, 200421 yr Just to jump in with a short note. I cannot remember when I had a blue screen situation. W98se. Years I guess.
November 18, 200421 yr I have the same issue with Win 98se here and the same path error message. Upgrading to XP is not an option for me.Thanks, Rob
November 18, 200421 yr Exactly the same situation here (W98SE).Error msg refers to the "My documents" and "Application data" folders.I have all the required VB dlls.Does anybody out there use W98SE and does NOT see this error?
November 18, 200421 yr Same problem for me. I jus posted the same type of message in the AS forum too, sorry I didn't read here first. Hope we can find a solution.
