fsx.exe won´t shutdown when I close FSX

Featured Replies

Hi!

Today I bought and installed the new PMDG 777. Everything worked flawlessly, but a new problem occurred:

Everytime I close FSX, fsx.exe*32 stays in the task manager and won´t shut down, even when I select "end process", it won´t disappear. I recognised it, because ezca.exe and shadenl.exe don´t close anymore after I quit FSX.

What could cause that problem?

OS is Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance!

You have to wait a little bit for everything to unload from memory. Thats how mine is. When you see ezdok disappear from the taskbar thats when everything is closed

You might overstress FSX if running with too high settings using the PMDG T7.

Thanks for the answers!

But waiting does not the trick. Until yesterday, it could take up to a minute for everything to shut down. Now, even after 20 minutes, FSX.exe*32 is still active in the task manager and can't be closed and ezca.exe and shadenl.exe are still running as well.

Even if I boot up FSX and afterwards load the default trike over Friday Harbour, closing FSX doesn't work properly anymore...

Almost always caused by one of the add-ons not cleaning resources on exit.

Things like runaway threads, dangling handles etc...

Disable all your add-ons (without un-installing them). Can be done via "dll.xml"

Start with just the aircraft and no add-ons and see if you can exit cleanly after some time flying the bird.

If it's no the aircraft itself that has the issue...

Add one add-on at a time and repeat the process.

Note: Don't just start FSX and immediately shutdown. It's unlikely you will see the issue under those circumstances. Rather, run the sim for a while with each enabled add-on

Thanks for your help! I already tried to use the last working dll.xml, but still no joy. Even if I close FSX immediately after it booted up, the same phenomenon occurs. The FSX.exe stays in the task manager and can't be ended.

Its worth mentioning that, other than installing the 777, I got a new router so I had to set up a new home network. (I run FSX in a network with RC4 and EFB running on a laptop) Maybe that caused some trouble?

Right now, only restarting windows solves the problem. But to do this after every single flight and before switching airplanes could get a little annoying...

Hi!

I just found out that the FSX.exe does shut down, followed by Shade an Ezdok. But it takes 5-6 minutes after closing FSX...

You might look in your Windows Event Viewer to see if there are any error reports.  Click on the Start button and then type Event in the Search box then look up in the Menu and click on Event Viewer.  I always recommend individuals open up Custom Views>Administrative Events.  This lists all the recent "events" that occurred on your system.  You can also open up Windows Logs>Application too but those events should also be showing up in the Administrative Events if there was a problem.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim!

The event viewer doesn't show any errors. No application errors, no warnings, nothing...

Any ideas?

Why do you have Shade running Michael ? It is set and forget. Have you tried disabling Ezydok ?

Disable EZdok in the EXE.xml and see what happens.

I alter the Shade settings from time to time. And even with Shade not running and Ezdok disabled, it takes approximately 10 minutes after shutting down FSX until FSX.exe is gone from the task manager.

I think it might be related to the new network I had to set up when I got a different router/modem from the new provider.

From that moment on, it takes that long to end FSX. And, when I want to print something on the networked printer, it takes 7-9 minutes until the printer finally starts printing. Something seems to be messed up with the network settings. Could that be?

Could be your dll.xml has been rearranged. That frequently happens with a new add-on and sometimes that causes problems. I rearrange mine to keep the "key: items toward the top. Flight 1 has a free toll that makes it very easy (can't recall the name...something like HTM Tool)

Worth giving a look

Before the installation of every new addon, I save the dll.xml file to have a working version to go back to.

No matter what version I tried, the long time at shutdown remains the same.

Sigh... Looks like I either live with that issue or I do a complete reinstall.
