Pulled the trigger on a new system

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Reading through the forums and all the advances with DX10 now I dug deep into my piggy-bank and went to my local computer hardware store and are having them build me this system:

  • Cooler Master HAF XB Gamer Case, Black
  • Intel Core i7-4930K Processor, 3.40GHz w/ 12MB Cache
  • Asus Rampage IV Extreme w/ DDR3 1866, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, PCI-E, 4-way CrossFireX / SLI
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Corsair Dominator GT 16GB DDR3 2133MHz CL9 Quad Channel Kit (4 x 4GB)
  • eVGA GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified 3GB PCI-E w/ ACX Cooler, Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort
  • Corsair AXi Series AX860i Digital Modular Power Supply
  • Samsung 840 EVO Series Solid State Drive, 250GB - Primary OS
  • Samsung 840 EVO Series Solid State Drive, 500GB - dedicated for FSX
  • NZXT Sleeved LED Kit, 1m, Red - to pimp things up a little
  • LG SuperMulti 24x DVD Writer, SATA, Black

I've already got all the Saitek goodies and a 27" monitor so the next phase of this purchase will be to run FSX on 3 monitors but I have to let the sting of this purchase die down before I even attempt to run this by my wife!!

If I missed anything, I would love to hear about it as it's not too late to make adjustments as the EVO SSD's are being ordered so I have a week and a bit to make some changes.

Thanks!

If I read your description wrong I apologize. It was told to me that running dual video cards can actually screw up FSX which is why I went with only one card.

I think that's just the name.  The 780 is a single card AFAIK.

I didn't go through in detail..but it looks like a top of the line, system that you can get for FSX today

Looking forward to your build and OC and feedback

You might want to get the factory OC'd version of the GTX780 ... I neglected that fact and had to use EVGA Precision X to OC it by 20MHz.  It's best not to have to do that.

The classified is the top of the range 780 from EVGA so he's all set there

Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Mike the H110 gets much better reviews both for cooling and noise levels than the H100i.

Don't know if it will fit in that case though.

Also the Samsung 840 pro has better write performance than the EVO series,

from my reading, so that would be a better choice for the OS.

Thanks for the input folks....much appreciated. I've been doing some more reading on the components and given the input here, I'm pretty happy with the choices. I'm not looking to over-clock the system too aggressively so I think this rig should last me what...a couple of years?? :P

Thanks again for the input.
