  1. Could you suggest some? I managed to mess mine up without backing it up because I had no idea such a thing even existed.
  2. I have used AI smooth before and it seemed like a decent enough program. I have tried running UT2 at 100% with the FPS limiter in UT2 at 30 FPS but I never get 30 FPS when I have at other times so I don't actually think it works. Aside from AI smooth this program called Traffic optimizer that was mentioned what does that program do and is it worth looking at?
  3. Yea I noticed there is an edit to the swarmclouds shader section from ASN which I know I didn't change anything. One of the files says swarmcloudsbefore ASN or something to that effect. Anyway I am using DX10 now and I am still seeing the flickering clouds on mountains so I am not sure if it's a DX10 issue only or if the problem is not fixed by the ASN edit.
  4. Road vehicles impact FPS A TON. It won't magically give you like 20 FPS increase or something but turning off those vehicles will help. Also setting auto gen to normal/sparse and scenery complexity to normal/dense. Also lowering the water setting to 2.x low helps but it can add some rather annoying scenery flashes and objects from time to time. Also if you're using a FPS limiter disable it and set the FPS to unlimited.
  5. Where do you find a default copy of the halo file? I also have been seeing the glowing ball light on aircrafts.
  6. Great, thank you for the input. Guess i'll give it a try and see.
  7. I have not used DX10 mode, I know of the DX10 fixer but I am just wondering if DX10 adds FPS or does it just make the visuals better but no performance gain? Is there any performance loss using DX10 mode?
  8. How much of an increase in FPS does this program actually provide?
  9. Yea ASN impacts FPS in a significant way if you using high resolution clouds and are in a heavy weather area. Now if it's clear skies ASN has basically no FPS impact.
  10. Yea I had been using FTX global but I thought I might as well give GEX a shot after also using the UTX program and I have to say for my setup I am getting WAY WAY WAY WAY better performance with GEX+UTX than I did with FTX Global+UTX. Not to say FTX Global looked bad or anything but GEX+UTX is for me at least a far superior upgrade over FTX Global just because of the pretty remarkable FPS increase as well as the visuals. With FTX Global+UTX I had to set my autogen at normal/sparse to achieve 30 FPS in my PMDG+ASN+Add-on airport+UT2 and even then I was still getting MASSIVE fps drops on approach down into the single digits at some points. With GEX+UTX and with all those add-ons running plus my autogen at very dense/scenery complexity at extremely dense I am still getting close to 30 FPS. Sure there are occasional dips to the mid 20's but I am not seeing the FPS drops like I was with FTX global.
  11. ASN impacts FPS especially if you're landing at any of those payware airports and there is any kind of bad weather around or lots of clouds. So many times recently I have been landing at those airports and my FPS has just gone into the tank. So much so I am wondering if perhaps I have something not setup correctly in my system. I use UT2 for traffic but I have it set to get 30 FPS in the program but I don't think that feature really works because I never EVER get a consistent 30 FPS when landing at those airports with any payware planes. The PMDG planes are VERY VERY hard on FPS so there is going to be a major drop in FPS anyway and when you add ASN, and payware airports it's gonna suffer even more. I also get the stuttering even when taxiing around the payware airports I just assume that's how the sim is going to look and there is no amount of tweaks or anything I can do to fix that. If there is I would be more than happy to try them because I do get quite frustrated having the FPS go in the tank on approach to those airports.
  12. Yea I have all the lighting effects off except for landing lights illuminate runway. I think I have found the cause and it's I had my Nvidia inspector settings on to high AA. As soon as I turned that down today I got another 10 FPS so instead of being at 22-24 FPS at KDFW at the gate I am now getting 34-36 with the same settings in FSX. I am not sure about the UT2 planes yet as I just installed the shockwave 3d lighting add-on see if that might fix it.
  13. So I think its becoming clear to me the more I try and fix minor annoyances the more I seem to be "breaking" the sim. Last night I did a flight from KSFO-FSDT KDFW at dusk and by the time I landed it was dark so I dunno if that will play a part in this or not. Anyway takeoff-climb-cruise-descent all just fine FPS wise. It wasn't until I got into the approach that the FPS went in the tank. Like it bogged down to 8-10 FPS something I haven't even seen before at that airport. Now I have autogen at normal, water 2.xmid. I was flying the PMDG 737 so I know thats a fairly big drain on FPS. Anyway after somehow managing to land at like 10 FPS on rollout the FPS all of a sudden went back up to 22-24 where it usually is for that airport. Why on approach did it go in the tank and then once on the ground the FPS returned to normal? This also happened when landing at KMIA the FPS went down to like 5-7 FPS and then once I landed it went back up to 26 or so where it usually is. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be awesome! Also something else I haven't been able to figure out is how come with my UT2 planes when they takeoff and land its like the lights on the plane become one GIANT white ball? Like the whole plane is engulfed in this light. It looks so unrealistic.
  14. Well you get 4GB so you are quite a bit under that which is good. One thing that has helped me from getting OOM's is only enabling the departure and arrival airport. That should keep the VAS usage manageable in most circumstances.
  15. You can change the resolution of clouds in REX4 Texture Direct. I have found the higher quality cloud you go the more FPS suffers. So I just leave my clouds at the lowest resolution. Also you have to change the texture max load in the cfg to 4096 if you wanna see the HD clouds but just remember you're gonna see a substantial drop in FPS in heavy weather. Even my system struggles to get a CONSTANT 30fps. Sure most of the times it's right at 30 but in heavy weather I have seen it drop to 15-18 FPS. So with your system I think you unfortunately have to temper your expectations. I thought with my system I would be able to run every slider maxed out and add as many airports/addons and I would still get great FPS but it's just not the case. You have to pick and choose which settings are most important for you and what gives you the most enjoyment out of the sim. If clouds are the most important then drop some of the other sliders. Oh and I highly suggest running road traffic at 0%. Also if you wanna see a big FPS boost drop water to 2.x Low. Yes you're gonna see random scenery pops and some random lines and they will be annoying but you do get more FPS.
  16. I highly recommend these aircraft. I started flying these aircraft before moving to the PMDG aircraft and it made the transition so much smoother. The Aerosoft planes also come with a co-pilot that will basically do everything for you except FLY the plane. So you can see what is being turned on or what buttons are being pushed so you can start to memorize the checklists. Once you memorize them you don't need the copilot and can do everything yourself. One thing that you do have to do is setup the MCDU with all the flight info but there are tons of tutorials out there that explain this. Once you do it a few times it becomes super easy. The only thing else you are really responsible for is setting up the auto pilot.
  17. Yea I did a flight today and the winds were exactly as they should of been so I am guessing I messed something up. Thank you for the detailed and helpful response!!
  18. I'll keep monitoring the winds and see if it continues to happen but I'm hoping it was just a random thing.
  19. I just did a short flight from KPHX to KLAS. Before leaving KPHX I checked ASN and it said the winds were 250/6 at KLAS so I figured I would be landing on 25R. Anyway as I got close to approach I tuned the radio to KLAS and it said the winds were 238/6 which still seemed like 25R would be the right choice. However on approach the winds were 028/12 or something close to that. Why would the winds be so different from what was said on the radio and in ASN?
  20. Very true. Great performance and the details are fantastic.
  21. I have found most night textures especially at the last 2 if I have flown into Flightbeam KPHX, and FT KBOS to be VERY DARK at night. I have the exact opposite issue you have. I want the airports to be lit up like a christmas tree haha.
  22. I did a flight yesterday that had me landing at Flightbeam's KPHX which is an awesome airport by the way. On approach though the airport basically looked totally dark. Sure I could faintly see the terminals but the runway, approach lighting, and taxiway lighting looked almost DARK. Like sure there was a tiny bit of color but the lights weren't bright and it was basically impossible to follow the taxiways. Is there a way to make night lighting brighter at airports? Also did another flight too Flytampa KBOS and again the night lighting looked EXTREMELY dark. So I got to thinking maybe it was something on my end that was causing these scenery to display dark airport lighting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  23. I have a pretty decent system I think and am wondering what the difference is between supersampling and sparse grid supersampling? Which one is better to use? Also how high on the antialiasing setting is it ok to go?
  24. It's an extremely simple program to use so saying it's a total mess is just not true. It's unfortunate you are having issues with it. Perhaps someone in the support forums for them could help you.
  25. This is something that I just noticed starting to happen. When I start a flight everything is ok. Once I have the plane powered up however I lose the hand cursor in the VC and it just becomes the regular pointer cursor. The hand does not return. I am using the PMDG 737. When I open up FS2crew the hand cursor returns however when clicking in the VC it goes back to the normal cursor. Is there something I can do to fix this?
