Transition from FSX

Why is everybody so obsessed with "switching".

Because it takes already a lot of time to manage one platform, much less two or three.

Why is everybody so obsessed with "switching". You can run FSX, P3D 1 and P3D 2 all on the same computer. Use whatever platform that suits your needs. I even have all Microsoft FS versions, from 1 up until FS9 installed as well, and then there's World of Warplanes, IL-2, aeroflyFS, X-Plane 9, Rise of Flight, DSC, Flight Unlimited III and Take On: Helicopters. Flight simming isn't dead. It has never been better, despite Microsoft dropping the ball. Carpe diem!

In addition to SimonC's comment above, one of my main concerns (in additon to cost and maintenance) with swapping usage between two or more sims is that flight simming is an adventure in the make-believe which we buy into as a substitute for the real thing.  If I'm in FSX, the world looks a certain way, and I come to embrace that.  If I switch to something else, then it's going to be adapting to a new "reality".  The concept of switching between the two on a regular basis might not work for some.  It's like if I walk out one morning to get the paper and the grass is a different shade of green, the street is paved differently, and the trees don't have the same maple leaves, and then I go back the next time and it's different.  I personally like consistency, not Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds type experience every time I go over to the other platform.  My opinion is that these are  valid concerns and I don't think we ought to discriminate against those who are expressing these thoughts.

That said, I say forward with P3D  Just like one had to adapt to FSX from FS9.  Some were okay with running both sims simultaneously, some abandoned the previous one, and some said Hell no, FS9 forever and ever and ever.  For me, I'm going to play it by ear, but I'm definitely not going to be one of those guys that sticks with FSX for the sake of one or two developers, remaining stuck to some 2005 platform because I can't live without a certain addon.  There will be Enigmasim, Flight Sim Labs, and no doubt others, and if we go through a dry spell without certain availability of quality addons, then we can always use DCS (another non-trivial platform switch), or play Civilization, or divert yourself with a role-playing game, or go on dates with nerdy women in horn-rimmed spectacles who like a flight simmin' man, or whatever, but the time has come to move forward. :P

Oh crikey! A brand new thread and already over half the replies are from the "Negative Nancys..."

Not from me. :-)  I've now had a chance to play with a friends P3D 1.4 installation twice and I am IMPRESSED!!!

I'll be buying P3D 2.0 within a few weeks of it's release. From what I've seen so far I can hardly wait to part with my money.

As they say - "the proof is in the pudding" - *IF* P3D 2.0 is as good as indicated then many of the "negative nancy's" will have to make a decision - Fly their "favorite a/c" in an FSX that looks cartoonish compared to P3d or switch. OR run both. If there is anything I've learned about flight simmers through the years it's that, if there is something better out there, they WILL find a way to use it. You may  not like running two installs, you may not like having favorite a/c that are incompatible and you may  not like having to reinstall ALL your add-ons - BUT - you WILL do it -because you are a flight simmer and that's what you do.

Stop complaining - and get with the program - you will eventually - you won't be able to help yourself - flight simmer!

Hahaha, this sounds like such a flight simming propaganda!! Would make a good TV-ad

I guess FsX is such a problem maker, we don't want to mess with it by installing other platform into the same PC. I know this might sound silly but it's true for me. After long time of tweaking and frustration when you found an optimum setting for FsX, you don't want to mess with it again. My main gear is sim-dedicated and I don't install non-FsX(P3d now) stuff. I keep regular system backup, because I fear something can go wrong anytime and I don't want to reinstall everything again.

If P3d v2.0 will be a problem&tweak-free simulator, perhaps I can overcome my fear:)

Then enjoy fsx for what it's worth ..... a great platform that still has many years ahead for it. Personally I will enjoy and maximise both, because I can.
