Help: after win 8.1 Installation no DX10 Checkbox

Featured Replies

Installed Win8.1 (64bit) today, everything went ok.

Now I see, that I do not have a DX10 Preview Checkbox any more!!!???

Haven't made any installations or setups between installing 8.1 and starting FSX.

I have a GTX580.

I recognised that with win8.1 the latest driver 327.23 was installed.

I reverted back to one two versions before, but that doesn't help.

Before 8.1 everything was ok, of course, and I was happy with Steve's DX10 fixer.

I checked DirectX Installation, says, everything is on the latest. No need to update.

I also removed FSX.cfg and let FSX create a new one, but no success.

Started FSX in several compatibility modes, I have admin rights, I have UAC off, full rights everywhere.

Any ideas are very welcome!!!

OK, got it.

I removed the Dxgi.dll and no it is running.

Was some leftover from FXAA tool or whatever.

I do not understand why it makes problems after updating to 8.1, but ok ...

Nice to hear it works for you.

How does Win 8.1 work for the rest? How's performance, stability, CTDs?

No difference as far as I can see.

Win8 was rockstable before and it is now also.

But haven't made longtime test till now of course.

Running and playing around since last night, no CTDs, no hangs, no joystick issues, but again didn't have problems with win 8 either

I can't get SweetFX to work in DX10 with Win 8.1. Bummer.

Same here Mark...damn.

Hope someone finds a workaround soon.

Same here, updated to W8.1 a few days back... I also noticed that DX10 was no longer working. Although my fsx.cfg still had the line D3D10=1 in it. On top of that, within FSX, in the Options - Display menu -> DirectX 10 Preview was no longer there.

I'm glad that I found your topic here Guenter!

You mentioned Dxgi.dll -> that comes with Sweet FX which I had also installed.

Removing the dll is enough, but I cleaned up all Sweetfx files.

Yep, for me it is either dx10 fix or sweetfx under 8.1. I wonder how will dx10 perform

Are you saying just getting rid of dxgi.dll fixed the checkbox issue missing under Windows 8.1?

in my case, yes.

Tried several things, but not several steps at once ... just step after step.

After deleting the DLL, the queckbox was available again.

However I found that tip also in the deepth of the internet ....
