November 17, 201312 yr Been having a few issues with missing files lately so tried the FSX repair option from the disc. Every time Iv'e tried this it does nothing...does it have any purpose?
November 17, 201312 yr Well I know that it WILL delete ALL ADDONS. But if you don't have any, I believe it just configures all files to default. Somewhat like a copy and paste. I.E. you used Mojote's tweaking tool and have a new FSX.CFG the repair option will overwrite it to default. Hope I helped! ^_^
November 17, 201312 yr I know that it WILL delete ALL ADDONS. Are you really sure about that? I've never had to repair FSX, but I believe that all it does is look for the "default" files (i.e. files the original installer provides) and re-installs those that are corrupt or missing. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it does not do anything to installed addons. Florian

My FSX was screwed so I put in the disks clicked repaired cried for all the planes, scenery..... It did fix FSX but I had to re-install everything...
November 17, 201312 yr FloG is correct. It will change the Fsx.cfg, the dll.xml, exe.xml, and scenery.cfg so all you need to do is back up the dll.xml, exe.xml, and scenery.cfg. The reason Anton had to reinstall everything is because all of the entries which are required for commercial aircraft and some scenery were gone if the dll.xml was overwritten. The scenery can be reconnected as the scenery is not gone but it is best to back up the scenery.cfg and replace it after the repair. Repairs will bring back your default textures and maybe some .fx files that might have been removed by a commercial addon installer. Most of the time though the problem is in the dll.xml, fsx.cfg, or scenery.cfg. It's better to rename the fsx.cfg, restart fsx and let the config rebuild. This is better than reinstalling or repairing FSX. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 18, 201312 yr Useful pointers Jim, thanks. Often wondered about it myself. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
September 7, 201510 yr Hi Jim I am experiencing a starting problem with my FSX. After having visited forums, I have already excluded the logbook possible issue, and tried as you advised : rename fsx.cfg and let the program rebuild it. It did id but still the process remains stuck in the early loading stage (according to "Ressource Monitor"). What I did before I discovered that: 1- I deleted a scene in the Scenery library. 2. I run succesfully FSX because I wanted to verify the correct uninstal prior to reinstalling a new scenery instead. 3- I installed the new scenery (MegasceneryWorld Florida). After that, impossible to relaunch FSX... I might have done something wrong, but as it is not the first time that I do proceed to such actions, I really have no idea !!! Do you have any idea yourself? A direction for investigations? I would really like not to reinstyall everything as I am having a lot of add-ons... What about Repair ? September 8, 201510 yr Interesting timing. There was a new upload to the Library available today named Gauge Effects Recovery or something like that and it is supposed to repair a variety of MSFS versions. Any know any more about it?
