Very Quick Observation - Cores and Joystick

Featured Replies

Hey,

Since I have a Quad core system only i5-750.  I did notice that by default P3D2 (this sounds so much like R2D2..) uses 3 cores on my system - Affinity mask 14 (it is not on the prepar3d.cfg), but I had to put Affnitymask to 15 to get all cores working to get little better performance on my old system.

Joystick issue is there with Windows 8.1.  Lockheed Martin needs to pressure Microsoft to release a fix for this joystick disconnect crap.

I will do more testing this week (but with thanksgiving right around the corner, and work picking up)...this is going to one crazy week for me.

Keep you posted on further tweaks and developments,

Skywolf

Thanks for the note on Affinity mask I will have a look at my new P3D2 very shortly.

Actually I might have again solved / or messed up joystick issue - it is completely weird (doing some crazy a## tests to replicate it).

Stay tuned for the joystick stuff.

Definitely play with the core tweaks to get performance

wonder if it'll like my 8 cores? Or if it'll be like FSX and hate AMD lol only and hour till I find out.

Super excited to hear your results.  I am eying to get AMD flagship 8-core chip too if P3D is gonna eat all cores for breakfast.

So far my performance on Eyefinity (6058x1200) on i5-750 (4.1ghz) is quite impressive.

Memory management is amazing.  OOMs should be super rare now.

OOMs should be super rare now.

Be careful about this one, with addons in the mix. It will always be developer dependent as well, so if one dev has been grossly negligent in keeping their memory footprint down it can still be an issue. But yes, definitely a huge step forward in memory management. We should see much less of it

I'll let you know but I only run 1920X1080. Which CPU you looking at getting? FX-8350 or 9590? Just a FYI the 9590 is just a factory overclocked 8350 and it doesn't have any room to overclock maybe 5.1-2 ghz but with a good mobo a 8350 can do the same I can push my 8350 to 4.7 and thats with a 4+1 $80 motherboard. I know I could get more with a better mobo which I may do at some point might pick up one of the newer 220watt TDP mobo's that the 9590 uses so I have more room mine right now strains if I push the Vcore above 1.4.

OOM's becoming less is the #1 reason I'm giving V2 a go. I rarely got them in FSX but I got close enough to get FSUIPC to 'ding' at me so I'm hoping with the new engine, I won't even get the 'ding'... We'll see. Never had a problem with FlightBeam scenery though, just some FPS hit that may even be improved with V2 ;) Exciting times and hopes for a bright P3D future!
