January 2, 200521 yr Every now and again we read posts of wish lists and how MS should go forward with our beloved flight simulator. But what would you do if MS decided not to take the product any further? Some suggestions might be ....Complain loudly to anyone who wants to listen.Move to X-Plane or another simulator.Accept that FS2004 is a really good product anyway.Support developers in making even better addons.Write your own flight simulator.Give up FS and go back to the wife, girl friend or whoever. As for me, I am entirely satisfied with FS2004 and the two or three addons which I have installed, so if MS were to close shop in this department it wouldn't bother me at all. Ever since the introduction of FS98 - my flight simming goes back to the days before V1 of MSFS - each new version has seen me spending lots of cash to upgrade hardware, get new addons etc., and I'm not prepared to do this yet again. How long has FS2004 been out now - 12, 14, 15 months? I fly it most days and each time I end a flight I realise just how much of a happy camper I really am - and just how much more of the simulator I have yet to explore in depth and implement, to say nothing of improving my flight skills - which even real world pilots are doing all the time.David
January 2, 200521 yr Me I'd play FS2004 until it started to get really outdated, then move on to X-Plane or Flightgear :) -
January 2, 200521 yr I only do FS2004 because of PMDG. Aslong as PMDG keeps cranking out quality add-ons I'll be around. If PMDG moves then I'd likly move where they go. Until then, I'd know for sure I wont have any problems with converting or giving up PMDG products from an older version of FS and the production of these products would likly be much more streamlined after a while.
January 2, 200521 yr "But what would you do if MS decided not to take the product any further?"Hmm.....I could finally get a life?.....:-lolSeriously, its a game, would anyone really be THAT bothered if MS decided to give up?, I wouldn't, I would just use what I have till it gets out dated, then move on to something else. The world would not stop turning if MS gave FS the heave-ho.Dan.
January 2, 200521 yr What would be very interesting would be what, if MS gave them time to develop it, some of the development community could come up with.Fly!II and Flight Unlimited II/III aren't dead, despite no support from the publishers, are they? OK, so they may look a little dated, but people still churn out add-ons for them. Knowing how far the FS add-on community can push a sim, if they had years instead of months to let their minds wander, the results could be pretty good! :-)Ian P.
January 2, 200521 yr X-plane is to ugly to be honest but would change when it surpasses FS 2004 in eye candy if so.
January 2, 200521 yr If their is no FS2006, then I might just upgrade to FS2004. Still enjoying FS2002.. :)
January 2, 200521 yr Microsoft Flight Simulator, the best selling software program of all time....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Can't see that they'll turn their backs on this cash cow anytime soon!
January 2, 200521 yr Having flown Sims that both the Civilian Airlines and the Military use ( and costs in the millions of dollars) , I am amazed at how well FS2004 does on the very few dollars it cost. I can remember flying FS98 when just hitting the wrong key sequence could result in a system crash, and you counted your blessings everytime you could completed a flight. At that same time, X-Plane looked like a bad drug trip ( not that I did illegal drugs). Today the scenery and the flight behavior of FS2004 is pretty darn good in my opinion. X-plane is not an option for me as it is still so far behind FS2004, that it isn't even in the same league. If there is no FS2006 etc... I will:Save money on having to buy a new system like a Pentium 7 with a 10 Gig processor, 500 gig harddrive so the program will fit and a 5 gig video card.Save money on all the add-ons that I won't need Keep on flying my ATR-72, PMDG, Lockheed Connie and Alpha Sim B-36.
January 2, 200521 yr It may sell well but the margin on it is rather slim.Profit isn't price times number sold after all, you need to take development cost into account.
January 2, 200521 yr It would not be a complete disaster. It would give add on developers a stable platform for a longer period. I wont be moving on for most of my flying unless LevelD and PMDG update their aircraft to match. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
January 2, 200521 yr I would beta test a whole new ATC system that can fully interact with AI aircraft and weather. It would have sids and stars along with a dispatch function. Radar contact is a good product but the voices and lack of AI support turned me away. I'd like a updated version of Proflight with the AI, weather, and dispatch function in place. Second I would like to start a petition to Microsoft to atleast release the weather code so we could improve the framerate hit in the clouds. Chris Willis' clouds are a huge help but I still have some minor slowdowns in certain weather conditions. I have a decent machine with an AMD 3000+, 1 gig of PC3200 mem, ATI 9800xt 250 mb, Audigy2, Asus A7N8X deluxe mb, shown on a sony trinitron 21" monitor.Does anybody know what ever happened to Robert MacKay from Microwings and Proflight fame?
