This is what DX-10 is all about

I just got a new GTX 780 and it has made a world of difference in FSX. I'm coming from an ATI 7770 and the difference is night and day. I did a flight this morning on vatsim and decided to see how the sim would perform with fraps recording  and it did great. Here is small snippet. I'm running ASN, FTXGlobal and REX4

Very, very nice, Devgrp!  Any of the GTX x80 series were monster GPU's as they were introduced, but the 780 stands head and shoulders above all of them. Brute!  :im Not Worthy:

Im about to make a similar move (ATI 7970), man that video is nice! What brand gtx 780 did you get and are you running sweet fx or enb?

ENB doesn't work with DX10, Jason, and will crash the sim if its dll's are found by FSX.

Thanks guys. Its a EVGA 780 @ JasonW. I dont think enb works with dx10 and I couldnt get sweetfx to work. I think its because I have windows 8.1. Only mod is shade with the clean white sunsets preset

Hi guys,

i don`t want to hijack this thread but please allow me one question.

My PC:

WIN7 Ult.64bit,i7 975oc 3,8GHz,3x2GB DDR3-1600RAM Mushkin RedLine(6-7-6-18),3x300GB VC-Raptor,Asus P6T Deluxe V2,Gainward GTX580 Phantom ,Tagan PipeRock 800W.,Watercooled-CPU

Would i benefit from a GTX780?

For the moment i don`t want to build a new rig.

Thank you

Mike

Not if you have the 580, Mike. If your proc was running at 4.6 or better, then yes - a 780 would be the way to go. At this moment it takes everything that my 2600K can throw at it - at 5 gig, but if that got pushed to, say 5.4 gig....

Your 580 is still one of the best GPU's available for FSX.

All the Best,

Like Poul said .Think about saving up your money for a new motherboard and CPU like 4770k first and you will see 30-50 procent increase in performance. Then match GPU afterwards

This must wait, perhaps later this year.

ENB may not run by SweetFX v1.4 runs like a champion in DX10.

Paul,  Do you think that I would notice any improvement by going to a GTX780?

Thanks,

Hi Jim: marginal, as the cpu is only running at 4.3, and the 670 is quite capable of handling that throughput. Not so if the proc was running at 4.8 - 5.1.

That imbalance will allow liberties with your FSX settings though, UsePools=0, decent cloud, decent graphics are possible with your existing setup, better even if you can pop up to 4.4, or a bit higher. It's a good processor, as long as it stays cool, or can be kept cool.

Hope this helps!

This CPU OC to 4,6GHz should not be a problem together with an additional CPU (air)cooler. I guess, the combination with a GTX780 would be well balanced then.

May I ask what monitor resolution are you running at?  I am still on the fence about DX-10, and I also have a 30 inch monitor at 2560x1600.  Currently I am running with a GTX680 4G

Thanks

Keep the 2700k (it's a beaut to overclock). You haven't put your system specs in your Profile, so I don't know anything else, like how it's cooled, BUT - on water, the 2700K can hit 5.0 - 5.1 gig, and will run fsx like no other. This is my preferred CPU. The 770 will work ok, but if money is no  particular object - the 780 will give you much better performance, less "worry" and a longer life-span.

2560 x 1600 is a very good size, both for performance - not too many pixels to paint, while displaying good horizontal and superior vertical field of vision. I would prefer this single monitor over my 3 x 19" TripleHead2Go 3840 x 1024 setup.

Hope this helps!
