Can FSX look this good?

If so, my default installation is looking a little shabby, and I am going to need a lot of help :-)

It is possible, but not at playable fps. These people normally crank the setting all of the way up, and land with atrocious fps, then edit the video to make it fluid. Don't worry of your fs looks nothing like those, most of ours do not.

One thing I learned from watching FSX videos is most of them are edited to make them seem way smoother than they are. Now I have zero idea how to do that but it certainly make for some totally awesome videos.

I've never made an FS video, but I've read about the trick of cranking up the graphics way beyond what would be practical and thus giving an unflyable framerate.... making the video recording with the sim running at 1/2 or 1/4 speed.... then editing the final video to speed it back up to normal rate, thus making the framerate much higher in the video that it really was in the sim.

It's easy to spot the ones that are rendered with FSRecorder to look smooth because the video's creator will have replaced the sound with actual recordings from real cockpits or real footage recorded from the ground (as in the second video you posted.) FSRecorder has a feature where it can play back a recorded flight and render frame-by-frame so that even if you were stuck with 3fps during the flight, it will still playback at 30fps... but without any sound.

There is absolutely nothing "wrong" with videos created this way, but it can be frustrating for some people wondering "why the heck doesn't my sim run that smooth??"

Thanks guys. Molleh, that is so true. I was like, no way my machine will ever do that.

I know for a fact that these are real unedited FSX game play videos recorded at normal speed:

and

Did someone in this thread claim that those videos were rendered? ...

It certainly can be done with bleeding-edge overclocked PCs with tweaked FSX installs, but most people won't see those same results.

Just sayin, wouldn't want anyone to get the impression that it can't be done!

To the OP,

Yes, FSX can look that good. Many of us use FSX like that everyday.

This is not that good, there are stutters and resolution is not that good. I have seen much better if you are going to doctor up FSX videos. The content is horrible.

That is awesome. I can say for sure I have not gotten FSX to look like the second video. I have maxed all the settings and gotten like 10-12 FPS which just wasn't very fun.
