Well surprised but did not work for me!

Hi folks,

Did post over in the fixer support first but just to let you know I finally purchased the fixer and set up accordingly thanks Paul for the guides, but alas even with very low AA setting at UK 2000 Gatwick with UT2 and the aerosoft airbus my frames just tanked away in cloud and rain.

Tried to set anything and everything but alas result unflyable a stutter show, revert to a full DX9 last night ran the same scenario and frames in very high twenties why should that be I have a meaty gtx 770 oc i7 2600 at 4.5 well for the time being its DX9 great shame.

Did I mis anything or is this not good for tube flyers.

Many thanks

DX10 is way better than DX9 for fps and smoothness, has been since day one, with or without Steve's fix, must be something wrong with your settings somewhere. Did you default your GPU by running the NVIDEA Control Panel and choose defaults for FSX? Then set up DX10 in FSX. Also you might need a default fsx.cfg to get things right.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

That would be my advice as well. Default your fsx.cfg and start from scratch with only the affinitymask and highmemfix set accordingly and then go from there.

Hello Flaps15

I was getting crappy frame rates too in the F/A - 18 Superbug when I first used dx10 fixer but now I fly through heavy clouds between 20 - 30 fps average and most payware airports i get around 14 - 30 average.

My advice:

Follow the DX10notes.pdf setup to a 'T' there is important advice on how to setup the Nvidia inspector like changing one of the top settings to BIO Shock and unclamping Negative LOD BIAS, ETC.

I have also found that using AA 8X CSAA and 4X Sparse SS keeps the sparkles away and provides the best performance for me. I have also found that setting AffinityMask=80 using the last two physical cores with HT off increases my frame rate by 10-15 percent.... I also have the buffer pools set to UsePools=0.

I cannot stress enough though that I recommend that you follow the DX10notes.pdf guide in setting up the Nvidia Inspector for DX-10.

BTW, I have an EVGA Nvidia GTX 670.

Thank you everyone for your help and assistance.

Will try a clean cfg but I do not have a great deal in my original, thank for the advise re NI but I did follow this and place all the settings as per the PDF.

When I first tried DX 10' it was in the default Baron all good soon as I selected the Aerosoft airbus in the bad weather very poor frame rates which made it unusable.

But fine in DX9 so is it a shader issue re clouds with DX10 well will give it another go this weekend but if it is the same then I will revert back to 9 and see what happens with P3D

Again thanks for your help here.

All the best!

FYI (For your info) I was using REX Essential OD clouds at 2048 and not the newer REX4 stuff... just so you know :-)

Hi sfm48

Thank you, I use FEX very low textures 1024 max, I just do not understand it is fine in Dx9 but just not fly able in 10? I am starting to think it must be linked to a shader issue as. Noted that others are seeing fps drops with heavy weather...

FSX the great mystery!

All the best

Interesting,

I bought the DX10 fixer a few days ago and have exactly the same issue, 30fps locked in a saved test flight with clouds in DX9. Try the same in DX10 and the frame rate tanks to a lowest of about 20.

I have tried :

Re-applying REX textures

a Fresh cfg

Performance is ok in clear weather! any ideas people?

Hi Mr Roped,

I have another thread going titled Advice for a new convert.

Have a look there some good advice from Paul J re settings...

It does seem odd that dx9 can run it but dx10 struggles..I am being guided bt the input from the forum and I have got it somewhat improved.

There is a copy of a config file on my other thread that PJ has kindly adjusted to my PC specs.

All the best

This has to be a bad setting somewhere. I'm running DX10 on a GTX 760 and a really old Intel i3 clocked to 4.5 and get frames rock solid at 30 in heavy weather and clouds. Also running Rex 4, Opus, the DX10 fixer, FTX Global/Vector, shade and Sweet FX!

Stands to reason your rig should do the same if not better, keep trying! It will be worth it.

The same here, my FPS in DX9 are stuck to 30 in the clouds, in DX10 it's unfortunately dropping to 15, I decided to switch back to DX9.

Yes have to say that I have gone back to DX9 I just cannot take the drop in clouds it is a stutter sim fest.

I like dx10 but it is just not doing for me I have rebuilt countless configs uninstall and re install 10 but clouds are the issue and I like clouds!

Well back to some flying rather than constant tweaking

Cheers

Using 8x AA in DX10 mode will cause big FPS drops in clouds.  Using 8x AA is really misleading because without cloudy weather it seems fine, but once you got lots of clouds 8x AA hammers performance.  4x AA is a great alternative and the IQ loss is very slight, especially if you use 4x16 which is what I use along with 4x gsaa and 16x AF (you can only use 16x AF if you have the DX10 Fixer).  Here are some examples of the IQ I get with these settings:

Active Sky Next has a feature which when enabled dynamically adjusts the cloud draw radius based on your altitude and weather.  This feature, along with the lastest DX10 fixer cloud clip feature, now allows me to fly in weather which used to be a stutter fest, but not any more!

Hi

Thanks for that but I must say I did try various AA settings and the cull clip in the shader.

I do not have ASN and your right that clear or partly cloudy weather is fine but when rain and nearly OC clouds come into play and a payware airport realistic AI with realistic settings so it's not hammered try the Airbus....FPS just tank down that it stutters badly and is not enjoyable anymore.

Cloud draw is only 90

Of course if using a default plane things are better hence me returning to DX9 where I can fly it with minimal impact.

Many thanks all the best

Would love to ran to DX10 but not until I figure out the performance drop issues..

Just following the thread here, with no particular specific answer other than - you can (mostly) fix it with a 5.0 gig proc and a 780.

I know it's an unpalatable answer, Mark,  and I'm not trying to be smart, but if you don't want lower your expectations, i.e. "I like clouds" - then you won't find an answer at all. The need for specific perfection, when running a low or mid range machine is fruitless: one can create the leanest pc, with the most optimzed os, SSD's - and still not come close to a happy conclusion. There is always the thought at the back of one's mind "Maybe if I did xxxxxxx" it would fix it" "I wonder if anyone else has found a fix?", and so on. It's always there.

I really don't know of any way to fix this kind of "expectation" problem other than purchasing the fastest beast you can create, and optimize the heck out of it! Even having personally done this three times - I still have to pull back some of the sliders because some part of FSX will suffer when I least expect it. I run six different configs, so that I don't have this problem, and each is a compromise in one way or another.

All the best,

pj
