Featured Replies

Hi!

For those who has had 8-minutes freeze, have you resolved it? I can't get rid of the freezes. Anyone with solutions?

Hi Alex,

Have you installed the new release of FSUIPC, as recommended on the ASN Forum?

Hi.

Yes. But it is not FSUIPC related. I never had freezes with AS 2012. Only with ASN.

Is it a FSX screen freeze (cannot use FSX) or is it ASN not updating or what?

If you give me a flight setup I will do a test and see if I see the same thing.

Hi.

The screen freezes for 8 minutes. You can still hear the sound but you can't do anything. After 8 minutes it unfreezes an you can go on flying. Can get up to 5 freezes on a 10 hour flight.

Alex

I do not do flights that long ... maybe 1.5 hrs for me.

Since I installed ASN upgrade maybe I flew for 30 min at a time.

Hi.

Sometimes the first freeze comes already during climb.

Hi!

Alex

Yes I have resolved it on my setup by reducing the affinity mask setting in the fsx.cfg and leaving one core free for the system.

In my case that meant going from 15 to 14.

Hi Farlis!

How do you do that in the fsx.cfg? Is there already a line or do I have to add that? And for the core? How is that done?

It is also advised to start with a fresh FSX config especially for the ones that are improperly "tweaked".

You still need to add the HIGHMEMFIX=1 to the new one.

Hi!

If your computer contains Realtek High Definition drivers (codecs) for a sound chip on your MB, your drivers may be corrupted.  This WILL cause the infamous FSX freeze.

If this applies to your situation, go to the Realtek website and download the applicable drivers for your system (for example: in my case, it is Win 7 64 bit).

I can factually state that corrupted sound drivers were causing FSX to freeze every time I flew.   When I installed the updated, current drivers, the problem was fixed.

If you are not getting freeze with as2012 but with ASN, then its clear where the problem is.

Don't tweak your system to make a faulty product work if you can avoid it.

I am also getting freezes and stutters with ASN, but my system running at 4.77Gigs is silky smooth with AS2012 .

I have already mentioned that ASN is the first addon EVER to require more disk access than FSX texture loading. Its installs a folder in FSx called as_svr, and  that folder is causing delay in FSX texture loading. Could highly likely be the cause of the stutters.

You could improve the situation by setting ASN priority in windows to above normal or high, but Hifi need to fix this product. as_svr folder location should be  configurable so those with extra drive can avoid it starving FSX of hard disk bandwidth.

Till the stuttering of ASN is fixed, I am back to As2012, and rex4.  I strongly suspect as_svr folder bandwidth overshadowing FSX is part of, if not the only cause of the stutters.

Check win7 resource monitor disk section when flying, and its very easy to see the most accessed folder is the new ASN as_svr folder. No addon has ever replaced FSX\scenery folder in top of disk bandwidth usage  position on FSX drive till now.

I have used every HIFI weather product for last few years cause its got the feel of a well engineered product, so will be patient till they acknowledge ASN software architecture is breaking smoothness in FSX.

Else I am sticking with AS2012, I have now matured in my dealings with addon devs, got capsim 777, and never opening a single post or purchasing any cap sim product ever again. Managing complex FSx rig is hard enough without having to cope with badly designed addon.

My advice, don't tweak your rig, just return as2012 till ASN sorted out. Starting with as_svr folder.

Till the stuttering of ASN is fixed, I am back to As2012, and rex4. I strongly suspect as_svr folder bandwidth overshadowing FSX is part of, if not the only cause of the stutters.

Did you report it to HiFi Tech?

I have realtek on this 2 yr old pc ... never checked codecs for it ... never had freezes with any software ....

I thought this stuff was normally updated thru Windows Upddates Win7-64 ??

How did you come across this fix?

How do you update a chip on the motherboard ..?

My dxdiag shows RTKHD64.sys ver 6.00.0001.6307 (2-11-11) .... is that bad?

Edit:

The realtek site tell everyone to go to the motherboard manufacturer:

High Definition Audio Codecs fsize.giffsize1of.gif fsize2of.gif fsize3of.gif fsize4of.gif infotable.jpg
Audio drivers available for download from the Realtek website are general drivers for our audio ICs, and may not offer the customizations made by your system/motherboard manufacturer. To be sure you obtain the full features/customizations provided in your original audio product, please download the latest drivers from your system/motherboard manufacturer's website.

click "I accept the above".  "next".

This will take you to this page:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Select the appropriate driver for your OS.

The new driver installation will uninstall your old drivers and then install the new ones.

But, the warning says:

"Audio drivers available for download from the Realtek website are general drivers for our audio ICs, and may not offer the customizations made by your system/motherboard manufacturer."

I am not sure about this.

Anyway, I do not have freezing problems .... yet.
