Prepar3dv2 beginner questions

Recommended Posts

Just started prepar3d v2 and need some help - (have already installed Orbx Global + REX 4 and through the Estonian migration tool some other add ons md500 (+ sound pack) + London x + mega airport heathrow - questions below:

1)With the sound pack for the md500 need to copy the sound folder into the md500 install location - but where does the migration tool install it?

2)Playing the game with a warthog stick and throttle (works great) also tried to link up my Saitek rudder and the whole setup goes crazy - seems to think the toe breaks on the peddles are elevators - how do I set it all up right?

3)Getting generally lowish frame rates (20-30fps - running a i7 oc'd to 4.7 and Nvidia gtx) how can I improve performance - someone has suggested trying NVidia inspector - where can I download this from and does it override the Nvidia panel?(have already tried disabling the shadows and this helps a little)

4)Particularly in and around London (London x and mega airport heathrow installed) getting very low frame rates and some strange blurry ground

texture effects - how can I improve this and sharpen it all up?

5)Generally sometimes get a bit of blur on the ground textures although it is worst in London - as above how can I improve this (already have disabled FXAA in game)

6)What is best traffic program to get for Prepar3d v2?

7)Can anyone suggest some other scenary add ons that work well with Prepar3d? and has anyone tried audio environment airline edition (tried it with FSX and had trouble getting it to work - has anyone tried it with prepar3d?

There are no beginner questions.  There are only beginner answers.

1. Don't know

2. go into controller settings, adjust as you see fit.  Better yet, buy FSUIPC, it's worth it for stable joystick and a miriad of other great functionality. (A Must Have for fanatical flight simmers)

3. major geeks is safe

4. 5. try affinity mask settings (learn padiwan) and fiberfraction (something like that) adjustments, maybe .45, will help with blurries.

6. Traffic 360 gets good reviews.  MyTraffic X 5.4 is good too, but need updates, and not perfect yet with P3D2.

7. Get a good high res mesh and combine it with sat scenery.  I make my own with FSEarthTiles.  If you like the buildings and trees, which I do depending on where I am, get ORBX stuff, it rocks, they have some free trial areas to download.  A bit pricey though, but if you live in an area and plan to fly there a lot, it's probably worth it.   I've seen really neat stuff in the youtubes.  I don't live in ORBX areas or anywhere good payware stuff is, so I just download FSET areas, which looks great if with a good mesh.  There are some great city stuff with lots of accurate textured buildings too, but I forget who makes them.  I usually just look on Youtube too see if something looks worthwhile.

thanks all for the answers

1)Yes I do have a warthog - is the program called pete Dowson fsuipc4 ?

2)Spirit that's the problem cant find the md500 folder! - there is one called nemeth designs in the prepar3d folder but it just contains manual - can't figure out where the migrator installed my helicopter files!
3)For the affinity mask is there a guide on how to do this?

Hi Mac,

i have the Warthog in combi with Saitek Combat Pedals. I use FSUIPC registered. Never used the built in control setup by FSX/P3D2. Besides FSUIPC for getting all those freaky axises gettin under controll a good add on -and it is free- for programming the buttons and switches is LINDA.

I have i7 oc´ed 4.6 and GTX 780ti and getting 28-50 fps depending where i fly. You can visit my youtube channel as i made quite a few videos on how P3D2 looks and performs.

There is a learning centre which P3D2 installs on the PC. You can find it either in the start menu or in the P3D2 root folder. In there you will find some tuning infos. This options has to be manually inserted in the prepar3d.cfg. The location (Users/your.name.here/AppData/Roaming/Lockheed Martin/Prepar3D v2) of this file is explained there too. Be sure to have hidden files visible activated. Make a backup of this file first befor messing around with it. If everything goes wrong delete is start P3D2 again and it will built the file from scratch.

As P3D2 has some flaws (one of em is the performance with autogen trees) there is a small configuration possibility in the cfg regarding the LOD  (level of detail) They are in the cfg by default.

[sCENERY]
POP_FREE_AUTOGEN=0 ----(default is "1" it enable the autogen to fade in the sight instead of popping suddenly like in FSX)
AUTOGEN_BATCH_LOD=4---(default is "2" it goes from "0-9" 0 is the highest value it control -as i understand the over all AG LOD)
AUTOGEN_TREE_LOD=1-----(default is "2" same values like batch lod but just for the trees )

These values has to be manually edited in the cfg. Play with these values for best quality/performance.

In my case i set the over all LOD via Options/Settings Menu to the lowest possible. it is hard to see the difference between high and low as P3D2 generates more autogen than FSX at same settings. This gave me a good performance boost. Tesselation is on medium for me as i didnt notice any difference in quality just in performance.

As Denali wrote learn padawan. It took me a while to get the right settings. But once you hit the sweet spot it is a nice flightsim experience.

One more advice even on same spec PC´s different outcome in performance.

1)think I found fsuipc on sim market - just wondering is it really worth 28Euro?

2)the md500 was in the simobject folder

3)Is there any guide/link to set up the affinity mask?

4)Can anyone advise on some good scenery (non orbx)- I read some good reviews of Dubai by fly tampa?

Not if you can get your controllers working with the options in P3D itself (which should be possible), if you ask me. I bought FSUIPC after doubting about it for years, mainly because everyone said it's the Swiss knife for flight simming and also as a thank you to the developer because the free version helped me fight CTD's in FSX (which I don't use anymore) but right now I only use the Autosave option... which is nice but 28 euro is a bit much for just an Autosave. Well, I do also use it for some buttons on my joystick but not because I needed to but only because I spend 28 euro's on it and felt the need to actually do something with it... ^_^

I am quite alone with this view though because most people say FSUIC is the addon to have. But I understand your doubt. ^_^

You´re not alone Jeroen,

im using it mainly to keep the Warthog and it axises under control. But i still learn more and more about the possibilities that FSUIPC can offer. Few months ago i got a hint that it is possible to have trim on choppers (pitch and bank) Meanwhile i use the button/axis config for different aircraft models. My last discover was LINDA which is free but needs the registered version of FSUIPC.

I would say the 28 Euros is well worth it. FSUIPC can help alot.

As for sceneries i like some of freeware sceneries by Jim Dhaenes. Taxi2Gate´s KMCO is good and frame rate friendly even in P3D2. Aerosoft is not a god option for P3D2 now. Maybe Oslo 2.0 is good for it but i dont have it. FSDreamteam is good aswell as Flightbeam but they are quite heavy on the frames. Scenery depends always on what you want to fly.

1)Ok just figured out I need to add

[jobscheduler]

affinitymask=84

to my .cfg file but seem to have discovered x2 .cfg files one is actually called prepar3d.cfg the other is called prepar3d but is classed as a .cfg file in the description - which is the one to modify?

2)also with the FSUIPC 4 software seems you can get a registered and unregistered version what is the difference?is there a free version to test first?

FSUIPC is a absolute must in my opinion. On the free Version I think it only shows traffic on airplanes that is TCAS equipped, if u don't have FSUIPC you won't see any traffic on TCAS (please correct me if I'm wrong guys) and you won't have any of the options that the registered version has.

When I got p3dv2 it did not recognize anything through my controller, so I assigned everything through FSU I PC and unassigned everything through P3d, cause if you don't when you start off in a plane it will start at full throttle and left or right Rudder.

If you figure out how to make the controller work without using FSUIPC then make sure you post it because I couldn't figure it out.
