These settings as usual depend on your GPU. Im running a GTX 780ti which is pretty powerful but even that GPU can go down to its knees in P3D2. With these settings doesnt mean they fit your system i still get the OOM´s but they are different to FSX. Always start from the lowest possible settings and work your way up !!! I suggest start low in bad weather (just in case you fly with real weather and Britain has lots of bad weather ) and go from there. 20-30 or more frames are good but i dont think you will achieve this in LHR. (btw i read somewhere that they work on an update for Prepar3D) I never encounter such strange CTD nor BSODs what so ever. Ther is some funky error but that was caused by an add on i guess. Here you can see how my system performs with P3D2 running with above settings. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA9mU2M0rH_KSF5l_b_EGLg Now that is all i can give you from here now it is on you to get the best out of it. February 2, 201412 yr Moderator All that is required to get the Lear45 working in P3Dv2 is to copy/paste the following from FSX to P3Dv2: ..\Sound folder (entire folder!) ..\Panel folder (entire folder!) ..\model\Lear45_Interior.mdl ..\model\model.cfg Nota bene: The Lear will be listed under ACME as the manufacturer due to L-M not having a license agreement with Bombardier. You can easily edit the aircraft.cfg file if this bothers you too much... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 3, 201412 yr Author 1)Mickey as always thanks for all the assistance................ I think the final piece of the jigsaw is the NVidia inspector (would be helpful if you could send me your config file - I understand the inspector also has a prepar3d profile but I guess your not using that?) - actually my system is not far off your one i7 oc'd to 4.7 and a NVidia 580gtx so I am hoping your settings might work well....... 2)Bill thanks for the tips - I actually got the lear45 working by just using the FSX files - but if I run into problems will try some of your suggestions
February 4, 201412 yr Hi Mac, you´re welcome The nVidia Inspector profile for prepar3d is ok you just have to modify some entries. The first one should be the compatibility field. Go to ANTIALIASING COMPATIBILITY (DX1x) and search for Bioshock enable this. ANTIALIASING MODE should be ENHANCE APPLICATION SETTINGS ANTIALIASING SETTING well that is something you should try i have something like BIAS 4x or so (am on vacation so i cannot check ) ANTIALIASING TRANSPARENCY SUPERSAMPLING i hahave 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling in yourr case you can start with 2x due t0 the GTX 580. VSync Tear Control to Adaptive and 1/2 Refresh Rate. Thats about it. Greetz MJ My youtube blog________________________Prepar3D v2.5/v3
February 4, 201412 yr Take note that although those NI settings do indeed work (AA is great with it!) it really hurst performance. Without that profile changes my fps is constant at its max (34) but with the changes fps struggles to get close to 30 and in some circumstances (clouds!) drops down to low 20's. It does look better (a lot better) but at a cost. (I also have a GTX580.)
February 4, 201412 yr Moderator 2)Bill thanks for the tips - I actually got the lear45 working by just using the FSX files - but if I run into problems will try some of your suggestions I left the exterior model alone, since it is native Prepar3Dv2 and has thus been better optimized, but the FSX version does indeed work... I can confirm that In my case only in really bad weather for ex in ORBX PNW (currently not supported and OOM are very likely) Greetz MJ My youtube blog________________________Prepar3D v2.5/v3
February 4, 201412 yr Author Thanks everyone for the input will give NVidia inspector a try and use mickey's in game settings with it..............does it matter what version you use (I managed to find 1.9.7.2 from guru 3d) - and does it actually over ride the NVidia control panels settings I am currently using?
February 5, 201412 yr Version 1.9.7.2 is okay. NI simply reads your nVidia profiles/settings (so if you made any changes in nVidia control panel you will also see them in NI) but NI gives you access to a lot of extra options the nVidia control panel doesn't give you. Once you start using NI it's best to not use the control panel anymore. NI doesn't override the control panel settings, it uses them, augments them and overwrites them! NI and the control panel both work with the exact same data.
March 1, 201412 yr Author Mickey + all Thanks for the assistance - just working my way through the changes now there is a definite improvement! Just started on NVidia inspector and got a couple of questions - 1)I notice its not a program you install you just seem to open the .exe- I guess to do the tweaks suggested by mickey I just need to open the prepar3d profile - then make the changes (note the compatibility section has a coat of arms symbol next to it?!?) - then hit the apply changes to the base prepar3d profile - does this mean everytime I open up the inspector it will have my updated prepar3d profile (just worried will lose the changes as its not an installed program) - and do I need to keep it open when I am running prepar3d (first time to use this so sorry for the basic questions!) 2)Mickey just want to check what you have set your AA to think you suggested BIAS x4 but cant find such a selection?(my default is x16Q 3)Notice many of the selections are greyed out - is this normal?
March 1, 201412 yr 1. Yes, go to the P3D profile, make the changes and hit Apply. This will save the settings until you change them again: they will be there whenever you run NI once more. There is no need to run NI every time unless you want to change settings and you also don't have to keep it open all the time. 2. The setting is called AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERSAMPLE_4X_BIAS 3. Everything that's grey is according to the default profile (general) settings. Only when you change something, it becomes black.
March 2, 201412 yr Hi Mac, do what Jeroen said that just about right. One advice to v2.1+Hot Fix 1 be careful with your settings, especially with the autogen trees. The auto gen tree system is not fixed yet so it could lead you to OOMs. Dont push the tree slider more than normal or dense!!! Lately i played around again with the batch and tree lod in the cfg. Now im running the batch LOD @ 1 and the tree LOD @ 3 (4 is also good if you run into OOMs) It looks quite good if you have FTX NCA installed you might want to check my youtube channel i uploaded 2 vids with these settings. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA9mU2M0rH_KSF5l_b_EGLg Greetz MJ My youtube blog________________________Prepar3D v2.5/v3
March 3, 201412 yr Author Mickey thanks for the reply! Actually got everything running very nicely using mostly your settings (FTX NCA is nice). However then I introduced a traffic program and it seems to be killing performance! firstly tried mytraffic 5.3b (older version from my FSX) manually installed - my fps went from 20-30 down to 5 at san fran intl!(traffic 30%).....then gave mytraffic x lite - better but my fps still went to around 15fps - still not happy! Anyone suggest any other traffic programs that will work and perhaps give less impact on fps? Also running Rex4 - just wondering what the "optimal" in game settings are for things like clouds and water when your running REX4 (Mickey notice you seem to be running water on high/ultra but not sure if your using rex4?)
March 4, 201412 yr ......Anyone suggest any other traffic programs that will work and perhaps give less impact on fps?...... It's important that this tool is compatible with P3D v2.1!!! A faulty addon can eat up your FPS and cause OOMs. Spirit .......Also running Rex4 - just wondering what the "optimal" in game settings are for things like clouds and water when your running REX4 (Mickey notice you seem to be running water on high/ultra but not sure if your using rex4?) Doesn't matter so much if the clouds are from REX4 or not. The settings in P3D v2.1 make the deal. If you set them too high then your FPS go down. REX4 clouds and water are nicer and if you use the higher REX4 settings it becomes more demanding. You have to find out what suits best for your rig. Takes a while but easy to do. Spirit
