Hi there,

 

does anyone know of a good Sochi scenery (freeware if possible)? I've found one or two via google searches, but all links appear to be dead or don't load at all.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Avsim.ru has one for FS9 that mostly works in FSX.

Thanks for the link. Downloaded and installed and I must say its a pretty nice freeware rendition of not only the airport, but also some of the surroundings.

 

Yesterday I did a non-stop in the T7 from KDFW to URSS and it performed well, no issues there.

 

However, I did notice a few anomalies in the ADE file. First there is no start position for runway 6, not that it matters to much, but if someone doesn't want to start at the gate they will have to taxi. Also runway 6 and runway 2 were closed for landing. According to the charts I found dated 16 Oct 2013, landings are only authorized for those two runways and takeoffs from only runway 24 and 20. Not a big deal as I was able to fix in ADEX, but on my first flight there, I could only get ATC clearance to land on 24.

 

One other thing I noticed is that progressive taxi for those that use it doesn't always work via ATC. Usually after you get taxi instructions to the gate, FSX will give an option to turn on or off progressive taxi. In my case since it was the first time there and the gates dont have any number on them, I had to use the GSX follow me. Again not a big deal, but I am still looking at the ADE to see if I can figure out why progressive taxi doesn't always work.

 

All in all a pretty nice scenery for those wanting to fly to the Olympics in FSX.

What do you mean, maybe more easy? The link you provided downloads the same Sochi scenery in the other Avsimru link, no? It's the same size or is it a completely different version, looks to be the same one to me,

Rob, i'm not sure if your post was directed at me and if so, I am not sure why. I certainly didn't mean to be busting your nuts by any means. All I was asking if it was the same download as the other one? And the reason I was asking what you mean if its easier is because I didn't know what you meant it was easier. I had no problem downloading the original file from Avsimru or installing it, I was just giving a quick review of the one I installed, and if you read it, I said it was well done. I was not complaining about anything, just stating that the ADE file that came with it had a few errors or omissions that were no big deal and easy to fix, although the progressive taxi thing not always working has me stumped.

 

I do agree with you on the point you made about release dates and updates, that does get tiresome but you can easily block it out or just take it with a grain of salt.

 

Anyway, sorry if my post somehow struck a nerve as it was not intended that way. That's just a side effect of reading text rather than conversing, is that its hard to know what the tone is behind someones words, Take care.
