AA issue w/ P3D V2 7 nVidia Inspector appears solved ;o)

Featured Replies

I did some testing to as Noel did and i can confirm the AA will improve with the Bioshock Compatibility. I posted thse two pics today over at LM forums.

This screenie shows P3D2 as it comes right out of the box. No NI settings applied.

Same situation different (NI settings) You will notice a major improvement in AA

Besides these two pix i suggest you checkout this vid i made.

Same settings as above in the second screenie....

Are you sure you have it set the same eh? I'm shocked by what this did for the dizzying line pulsating. I'm using the latest WHQL driver for my Titan GTX.

Noel I tested with 4x Supersampling as shown in the NI screen of post one, with Bioshock set.

How did you get to SparseGridSuperSampling 4x in your last post?

I agree that SparseGridSuperSampling 4x works in combination with the other settings.

However it also works with AA set to AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERSAMPLE_4X_BIAS

as posted here:

This is really great news

As someone mentioned this method seems to be very close (or even equal) to how to get AA to work in FSX DX10.

I bought P3Dv2 at the moment it was released but after discovering the AA issues along with some of the other issues I went back to FSX but maybe it's time to give P3Dv2 another spin!

If only the NGX would work in P3Dv2 as well I would drop FSX right away!

If you use the NI settings in this tread or the above link, (assuming 4xSparseGridSuperSampling is used),

to get rid of the pulsating runway/taxi lines you MUST set MSAA in-game to 4 samples. Setting 2 or 8 samples will bring them back again.

As far as removing the pulsating lines goes it seems that the general rule is to match

in-game MSAA to the SparseGridSuperSampling NI value you use.

So 8MSAA needs 8xSGSS and 2MSAA needs 2xSGSS.

Would be good to get some confirmation on this.

Will this solve the annoying issue of extremely blurry textures when using megasceneryearth 2? I did a comparison and notice that everything in FSX looks a lot crisper and sharper, like plane textures, cockpit, scenery, etc vs the same in P3D.

 Hello GB,

as of this aricle i found some weeks ago http://www.overclock.net/t/1250100/nvidia-sparse-grid-supersampling it is important to set MSAA and SGSS to the same resolution. I tried it it worked :) as above screenies and vid is showing.

Thanks for the link Mickey.

I see your post over at P3D has convinced a few sceptics.

styckx posted about matching SGSS to MSAA in post #27 of the AVSIM thread I refer to.

Should of had a lot more publicity at the time.

Does this have to be set as a 'global' option, or can we choose P3D under profiles? Thanks.

PS. - Just tried it out with global settings (does this effect my other games?) and it seems to work.

Yeah i agree. I think that most people running into jaggie AA in P3D2 is that they might have missed a thing in configurating either sim or NI or maybe both.

I just installed P3D2 onto my MacBook Pro (got me a 4 weeks DEV license for that just to try it out ;) and tried these settings too and guess what it is working even on the MacBook. Its the latest one from Apple. Ok i got to turn down some settings as there is "only" a GTX M750 2GB inside but the sim is running pretty good 27-35 FPS.

Nevertheless the AA should be fixed by LM in the future. IMO it can not be that you have to be a graphics, programming and what so ever specialist to get a sim up and running after reading millions of threads in support forums.

Maybe we should write a quick reference guide or some kind of checklist to setup P3D2 within minutes after installation. The nVidia users one for nVidia driven systems and ATI users respectively. That would make things a lot easier.

At the end of the day were are just pilots real world or virtual flight students or instructors or just people who wants to get into the world of aviation.

Looks nice and as it should look :) You will see the effect better if you go to an default airport (ex default flight for P3D2) not add on scenery.

If you have just P3D2 installed on your system you can of course alter the prepar3d profile. If you alter the global profile it would affect all apps and games so i would recommend to alter the Prepa3d profile. There is an option to export the current NI profile to HDD as backup. An import option is there as well ;)

Just tried it with a prepar3d profile, and with flightbeams KSFO -- extremely sharp! P3D looks great! Someone sticky this thread and give this man a beer!

It seems you can set Multisampling in Inspector to anything, be it 2x or 32xs and it makes no difference in the sim, as it still uses P3D's internal MSAA regardless, and because of this, the effect of Supersampling seems limited. I see almost no difference whether I use 2xSupersampling or 8x Sparse Grid as its only combined with 8xMSAA at the maximum.

Using 2xSSAA nets me 30fps at Orbx Dublin whereas using 8xSGAA nets me 20fps, but I see no improvement in the edges that suffer poor AA... it is better than 8xAA alone, in both cases however.

With FSX Inspector overrides MSAA in the sim and you can set it in-game to 'none' but you can't do this in P3D or you will get no AA at all.... at least, this is my experience. This suggests there is work to be done to get AA to work as well as it can in FSX... whether this is possible with P3D's use of DX11 is uncertain.

Looks like these SGSS settings might apply to version 2.0 only.

Just installed the 2.1 patch and I don't see the same benefit as before.

In fact setting 8MSAA in game and everything to application controlled in NI seems

to give "good enough" results with a fair increase in frame rates.

Using 2xMSAA [8x in the sim overrides the 2x] and 2xSupersampling in Inspector still works in 2.1 as it did with 2.0... for me this gives best performance, and going higher with SS setting looks no different.

Some nice person posted this casually and wow this is the first I heard about this.  I'm hear to tell you if hadn't already heard it's been possible to get FSX DX9 highest quality AA using Inspector with no performance cost all along (check it out RobA!).  That's right!  I've been outspoken about trying to get LM to work on this, in fact as you know they mention in the rendering FAQ there are inherent issues w/ DX11 and some AA settings and they were in some way working w/ NVidia to help resolve this.  Well, nothing needs resolved!  I can't tolerate FXAA as for my eye everything gets too soft verging on slightly blurry.   So, give this a whirl and see what you get.  I'm totally jazzed as this was my number one complaint and I can now say I have the exact same appearing AA as I had in FSX DX9 which I felt was perfect for all practical purposes.  Take note of the first AA compatibility setting (DX1x, choose the BIOSHOCK option) and as you can see I went back to 'override' in game settings and set my own preferred AA & super-sampling settings.   My runway lines are again jaggie-free and runway threshold swimming behavior has 90% disappeared, and of course FXAA is still OFF, and the performance impact is zero!   I'm stoked!!

Enjoy!!

I have yet to get P3Dv2 to respond to NI overrides. What am I doing wrong. What are your graphic settings within p3dv2.1?

Is there a service that I have turned off or something? I tried everything. I am running a gtx760 with the same drivers as yourself on Win7 64.

Initially just looked at the pulsating taxi/runway lines.

Looking at closer edges, have to admit in game AA only is still not good.

Let the tweaks continue....
