FS repaint alternative?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone was aware of a payware or freeware program that does the same thing as Abacus FSrepaint? I've heard that FSrepaint wont open all models, and I'm not about to shell out $30 for software that doesn't work.

I've been enjoying repainting Carenado's 1900 - but I'm going nuts constantly switching aircraft and reloading.

thanks!

+1, that's what I use. You don't even need to edit aircraft.cfg, just make a new texture.XX folder, save your texture files in it (along with a texture.cfg if needed), and open the mdl, your texture will appear in the liveries drop-down. It even has a 'reload texture' button for when you make changes and re-save your texture, and you can adjust the lighting and move the doors and control surfaces. And it's free. Amazing piece of software.

Are you getting MCX to read the texture.cfg? It doesn't work for me.

I guess I just assumed it was, but actually it looks like it's still on Arno's wishlist. Sorry for the misinfo.

That threw me for a bit. Copy the .mdl file into the texture folder you're working on then import. There's a drop down menu to select the type of file you want. Select FSX .MDL

I can hardly believe this program is free! I'll nip back and see if he takes donations.

ok, quick question if I may.

I've imported a model and it's corresponding textures. When in night mode - everything looks fine. However in day mode - I'm getting strange textures where the landing and logo lights shine off the model. Any way to turn this off?

thanks!

I don't know if there's a way to hide the lights, I guess they are added for 3D effects. Might want to task in the ModelConverterX forum at fsdeveloper.com.

You can also put the mdl file into a "model" folder that sits next to the texture folders, just like in an airplane's folder. Saves copying the model if you are making multiple textures. MCX should automatically find all the adjacent texture folders and add them to the liveries drop-down.

Its a nice program and very suitable as a viewer.

Unfortunately its not possible to " paint real time " with this program.
In FSRepaint we can paint real time.
I am not saying FSRepaint is a suitable painting-program for real time painting , but its ideal to survey a texture and determine whe the texture stops on one sheet and continues on the other.

Its a shame the development of FSRepaint stopped.
