February 20, 201412 yr Hello Dandimm/Daniel, Have finally found this posting (your link sent me off into hyperspace for some reason) All the Power Project wind turbine models have a solid/non-flashing red obstruction light as has one of the chimney stack models, all created using an xml effect and seen correctly in DX9 mode. Switching to DX10 prevents the lights showing at night. Conversely, the radome models each have a physical red-light with night texturing applied to its surface which is illuminated at night, dawn & dusk regardless of running in DX9 or DX10 mode. Perhaps I should apply this method of obstruction lighting to the other models? Not sure how a non-flashing light can turn into a flashing light on the wind turbines unless viewing it through the rotating blades! I am still looking into the shimmer effect, unfortunately all the power plants I've found around Paris are FSX default models & not part of FSXPP - but as my French power plants were designed about 4-years ago it's possible I've missed one. Maybe you can give me its lat/lon coordinates. The steam effect applied to the cooling towers can have quite a hit on frame-rates, but this is normally only a problem with those in the Yorkshire (England) area where more than 20 cooling towers can be visible. Ray Porter.
February 20, 201412 yr Hi Ray; I installed the PP about 15 minutes ago, and - whereas I didn't check for light effects - certainly the towers, steam, stacks and filthy dark grey coal smoke all appear just fine - very nice - in my beta-test version of the Fixer. I expect that the lighting will be fine too, and I'll check it later. The part that's missing, though - are the power stations themselves - the buildings! Also - now living in Canada, Ontario - I went looking for the Pickering Nuc plant, but it wasn't there. Thanks for a nice little addon! Maybe you can give me its lat/lon coordinates. Hello Ray - Thanks for checking this out, The coordinates for the power plant are N48 43.42' E2 9.9' The steam effect applied to the cooling towers can have quite a hit on frame-rates, but this is normally only a problem with those in the Yorkshire (England) area where more than 20 cooling towers can be visible. The hit I get on frames is pretty big even on 1 or two steam tower (Like getting cut in half) and I have a very capable overclocked 5.0ghz processor and 580GTX. I did run the effects through the DX-10 fixer first before I test so I cannot say for certain it was this until I replace the effects with your steam defaults. Best Regards.
February 20, 201412 yr Hello Paul, not sure whether to apologise or not for the lack of power station buildings - believe me some do exist - I'm a one band band trying to put some interesting scenery into FSX which the MS ACES team missed out of the World outside of the USA - don't get me wrong, I've much respect for that team, shame that Microsoft decided to eliminate development of FSX. i''m not GOD, capable of creating the World in 6 days with a day off on Sunday - My main aim in creating this scenery was to create landmarks visible from up to 20-miles away - for example a default power plant close to Pittsburg, hidden by the mountanous landscape, but given an added steam effect, visible above the landscape. I've spent a long time how to give the 'best bang for the buck' & as this is freeware ask yourself how many bucks did you spend adding this to your FSX scenery?
February 21, 201412 yr as this is freeware ask yourself how many bucks did you spend adding this to your FSX scenery? Gosh, that's a surprising response. I wasn't complaining, nor asking for anything - merely pointing the Pickering plant out as missing, and that a chimney and a steam tower on their "ownsome" in a wheatfield looked a little strange. My main purpose in installing it was to help Daniel if possible. I guess I'll just uninstall it and let you handle your support. pj i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
February 21, 201412 yr Paul, Sorry for the rant, caught me on at bad day - but scenery design can be very time consuming, particularly when custom models have to be designed & I wish I had the time to put in all those extra details - please don't take this as personal. Re-reading your post I see that your comments were more about positive criticism rather than the negative. Cheers, Ray.
February 21, 201412 yr It's ok - we all have those days, Ray. Just don't let it (my sometimes snarky attitude) ruin your enthusiam. I expect that some 90% of the commercial devs started out as hobbyists, giving away their work. I have many of Don Grovestine's excellent products, some of Ant's freeware (and payware), and lately the SOH Manfred Jahn's miraculous DC-3/C-47. If it were'n't for the generosity of folks like yourself - we might not even be using FSX today - let alone enjoying the benefits of DX10. March 14, 201412 yr Author While flying around Paris today, I noticed a black box flicker on the base of the cooling towers of the power station outside the city. I just wanted to report back that the DX10 Scenery Fixer v2.0 resolved this issue. Big Thanks to Steve and Paul !!!!
March 15, 201412 yr Well that's interesting. Mine still display the flicker with 2.0. March 15, 201412 yr Never mind - user error here. I had a 'tweak' in my VC camera description that was the main culprit of my flicker. March 18, 201412 yr Author The US default towers have added the steam effect along with many others worldwide. Three Mile Island, Berwick, looked good. The one issue is frames - they drop pretty big when facing the steam I just wanted to report back that on the frame issue. I replaced the converted DX10Fixer effects with the default effects that came with this package and it appears the frame rates have been restored. I included the effects list in my dx10 fixer DX10,ini [exclude] section along with my shockwave lights. DX10 is looking better each day! Thanks!
April 8, 201412 yr Author Hi Steve - The flickering black boxes on the nuclear cooling stacks are back in 2.1. There appears to be a black texture at the bottom of the stack that flickers/bleeds through the stack texture. I test the nuclear cooling stacks outside of Paris and Three Mile Island and they both do it. From a distance when you approach them is the most obvious and then it starts behaving once you are very, very close to the stack. Will you please have a look? I have my scenery slider set full left thinking that may help. Thanks again Daniel

April 8, 201412 yr Commercial Member Do you have ground scenery shadows enabled? What happens in dx9 and dx10 with the fixer libraries removed. I cannot find any issues myself, there was no specific fix in 2.0 that I am aware of and no changes in 2.1 that relate to day scenery. My FSX Analysis Blog
