May 14, 201412 yr I just built a 4770K system and like it a lot.. Make sure you get fast memory. Re Turboboost.. be aware that if you load up all four cores (as FSX will do), the Turbo only goes to 3.7 GHz, not 3.9. Still good performance ( I am not overclocking the CPU yet, either..) Anything more, and you are into manual overclocking. Bert
May 16, 201412 yr If you can stretch to it, get the GTX780. I've just upgraded from a 670 to 780, and while I've not ran FSXMARK on it, can tell it is SO much smoother P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive. May 16, 201412 yr thanks for all the help however if i overclocked to maybe even 4.3 ghz would this bring me into the mid twenties ?
May 17, 201412 yr thanks for all the help however if i overclocked to maybe even 4.3 ghz would this bring me into the mid twenties ? A fast processor and over-clocking are essential to run FSX on higher settings, since FSX is heavily CPU bound. So yes, it will help you. How much? depends on the system. (rule of thumb, about 10% of your current FPS per 100mhz extra on the clock) So you run out of RAM... Because performance goes to crap... It's basically the same thing. Not quite. VAS can also address a bit of VRAM, and sometime even your HD I believe, so to say that it's the same thing is not correct.
May 17, 201412 yr I had to go re read what I wrote since that was almost three months ago... I wasn't saying ram is the same as vas - I was responding to another poster about running out of physical memory... Whether or not people believe you can or can't I don't care - but when you swapping to the page file perf tanks because you ran out of ram. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

May 18, 201412 yr If you have an Asus board Bert, you can flip the TPU switch on the motherboard for an instant 4.2 GHz. Martin, I've seen that, and wonder if there is any difference between that, and enabling the frequency in the Asus AI Suite app.. Right now, I am running at 4.0 - stable and cool with stock cooling. Bert
May 19, 201412 yr Yes it's the same Bert. You can flip the switch on the MB or do it through Ai suite. Or at least you can for the 3770K, I presume it's the same for the Haswell version of Ai Suite. The extreme tuning through Ai suite on the other hand runs a series of stress tests and pushes the CPU to the max. When I experimented with this it took my CPU too far for my liking. You will probably have 4 way optimisation, that adjusts the fan curves too.
