Yippee: now for some ridge soaring!

Does ASN produce orographic lift?

Okay... I don't think I can use a weather program until LM sort the spinning clouds... When ASN uses Stratus layers, which I avoid when making my own weather, because of their orientation [flattened Cumulus textures], they look utterly ridiculous, turning huge amounts with the slightest move of the head.

Otherwise the depictions looks fine so far.

ya know, I have never seen this spinning cloud thing? I have always used REX4 and ASN or AS2012 previous.

That must have been in FSX then...? The spinning clouds are a P3D v2 'problem'.

Both sims have/had the issue. I haven't seen it in a long time - possibly because I've been using non standard (FEX, AS2012, REX, Xgraphics) for years. Not sure if it's the clouds used or some setting but if it were widespread - there'd be a LOT of complaints.

Novation - so if I understand you correctly - even with ASN you are getting spinning clouds?

Yes,, well in FSX it does very well!  In the "old days" one had to use CumulusX, but I have abandoned that and using ASN alone now.

When wind is right in the Cape Mountains area (South Africa), it behaves exactly as one would expect; real fun and great training to read the topography. I will do a video in P3D soon as I can get my glider installed.

It is a texture thing, and the way LM have implemented camera views. Flat clouds are very badly affected, and some cumulus type use a stratus layer at the base so they also look bad if the texture sets in use / weather engine uses these.

It is worse in P3D because LM changed the camera view setup, somehow. They were going to give one a choice of whether camera rotation was fixed with viewer as center, or with object as center. Think they are just very busy handling other issues at the moment.

For now I avoid looking out the side windows too much, where the rotation is very noticeable. Looking forwards not so bad.

This!... thanks for explaining it Rob. I can't believe people still don't see it (it ain't a subtle thing), unless they only fly looking straight ahead, in an AC with very narrow windows, or maybe they use a 2d panel ^_^

For VFR esp in helos or open cockpits its a nightmare, esp. if you like to look around a lot, as I do. I've had clear views to my side blocked when I turn my head, which is stupidly useless, when navigating by sight.

I know its not a major concern for LM at them moment, but I do hope they implement a switch.

Anyway enough of my moaning about this.... though it is highly relevant to this product, and the way they use the cloud layers.

The spinning cloud issue is more obvious with TrackIR users and also those who sit outside the cockpit during flight. Unlike you I couldn't believe people were seeing this lol. Another thread maybe?

Anyhow, will try ASN because I only see this and FSGRW as being in the game for me.

Strange - been beta testing ASN in P3D2 and 2.1 for a while now. I use AS2012 textures and I do NOT see this. I know in the past in FSX you could go into top down view over your a/c and just watch them spin in circles.

I fly mostly around 10 - 12000 feet though. Possibly if I flew the tubes at 30k I might see more.

Why wouldn't a Beta tester test at all flight levels? I always used three types. Low level GA, Mid level Turbo's and Commercial jet liners. just curious.

Just taken my Discus Glider (Aerosoft) for a spin with ASN. Wind not ideal direction and strength today around Worcester in the Western Cape (FAWC great gliding club). But I still managed to pick up some good ridge lift after hunting around for a while. So ASN's topographic wind affects are working fine in P3D2.1

Please to report that all systems in the Discus are working too. If you are into gliding, this is still the best model around. I used Estonia Migration Tool to install.

For the same reason that I do not test the networked connection. I don't use my sim that way. We have a large crew of beta testers and many of us concentrate on a specific area. Many fly the tubes and are very interested in flight planning, fuel burns, etc. The low & slow are more concerned with winds, visuals, etc.

That said - when someone reports a bug, I usually try to replicate it by flying the same flight and/or a/c - but this is just an assist in the process.

Bottom line - high or low ASN is the way to go!
