Can you use ORBX Vector and UTX in harmony?

Featured Replies

I currently use UTX Europe which I'm very happy with, however I fly to a few places outside of its coverage area.

So I'm thinking of picking up ORBX Vector with the intention of running it alongside UTX so that when I'm in a UTX Coverage area I see UTX and when I stray outside of it I see ORBX Vector.

Presumably this is ok, and will work as long as UTX is placed higher than ORBX Vector in the scenery library?

I can't seem to find a straight answer on the Orbx forums so hopefully there will be someone here whose requirements are like mine and can tell me how it will work (or not)

The user comments seem pretty unanimous that UTX is better than ORBX within Europe but it would be nice to have a similar product for when I venture out of the UTX area, hopefully ORBX Vector will be the answer as long as the two can co exist.

I had Orbx Vector installed but I was so unimpressed I immediately removed it. So I can't say how well it plays with UTX. You can disable UTX very easily but Orbx often doesn't leave an easy way to disable or uninstall many of their products.

By having UTX above Vector in the scenery library you should be okay, but the problem with many Orbx addons is that they don't follow the FSX SDK and tend to "do their own thing". Good Luck!

I'm using UTX Europe and ORBX Vector without problems.

Just disable in UTX configuration tool all vector features and move ORBX Vector above UTX in scenery library.

Which will accomplish the opposite of what the OP requested!

Sorry, my mistake...

I should stop reading posts in work...

I didn't try to use UTX vector features for europe and rest of world from ORBX... i decided to use only UTX Landclass.

Presumably this is ok, and will work as long as UTX is placed higher than ORBX Vector in the scenery library?

That's all you have to do to get it to work.

I thought these 2 do the exact same thing, or am I missing something?

I think it's pointless to run both at the same time.

FTX vector doesn't include landclass which UTX does

Yes, but UTX does it so much better!

I am in the same boat as the OP. I want to keep UTX Europe active while having Orbx Vector active for the remaining continents. To accomplish this I have placed all UTX Scenery Library entries above Vector and have not experienced any problems. I only disabled the UTX night lighting since I prefer to use the fps friendly Orbx Global night lighting.

Yes, I wouldn't disable UTX Vector data with FTX Vector, as you get secondary roads and better Vector options in UTX!

You've missed my point. UTX Europe covers Europe only, FTX Global Vector covers the entire planet.

Hence running the two (with UTX prioritised above FTX Global as it's the better product) should give me global coverage, with the advantage that in Europe (the one area covered by both products), the better product takes priority.
