March 19, 201412 yr Good Day all , I have a real 64 185 cessna and have not flown for a while , I was looking for a good simulator to practice procedures and instrument flying before getting back behind the wheel, Also with the price of fuel I would like to be able to supplement my Real life practice. I have an old CH usb yoke from way back in 2000 or so . I did try microsofts latest sim then a few times, I would love to be able to adapt my actual instrument panel to the sim or as close to it to develop some familarity . Which simulator would best fit my needs. Is it easy to modify panels or can i have someone else do that also. If possible I would like the float version of the aircraft also but not totaly necessary.
March 19, 201412 yr Welcome to Avsim! At the moment, there are 3 major sims currently on the market. Microsoft's Flight Simulator X (FSX): The last sim to come from Microsoft, it's been going strong since 2006, and is the most popular sim among AVSIMer's IIRC. There is a really nice payware C185 bush package for FSX, which includes a float version, that might be up your alley. Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d. LM bought the core software and rights from Microsoft a while back, and they recently released Version 2 of P3D. Might be easier to run on mid-level hardware, but a tad more expensive for the base pack. X-Plane 10. The main competitor to FSX/P3D. I've never used Xplane, so I can't tell you what it's strengths and weaknesses are, and how they would affect you, but I'm sure someone can chime in. And that C185 package I was talking about is also available for Xplane too! The package I've mentioned a few times is at FlightSimStore, I'll link the two packages FSX: http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=35&products_id=1262 and Xplane: http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=35&products_id=2464 Glad you stopped by Avsim to start getting back into simming. You've come to the right place (:
March 19, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the welcome, I think i will start with the fsx gold edition and that 185 package and see how that goes, I'll have to go find it at a store seeing that it is not available online anymore would it be too difficult to modify the panel in the 185 add on to match my basic panel ?

March 19, 201412 yr You should be able to with this software http://www.fspanelstudio.com/ You are actually better off making the adjustments by hand, in my experience. Assuming you are getting FSX and the Carenado C185 - you've got a good base to start from.. Send me a PM with your email address and let me know what you would like changed in the panel... I've made a couple of changes to this plane in the past and would be able to lend a hand. Bert
March 20, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the information , I will pick up a version today and start to play , Ill let you know when Im ready for those panel adjustments. Regards, Victor
