Cannot Find MS.CONFIG FILE

I have PMDG 777 installed, with FSX on a separate drive with no OS. In the GRAPHICS section I am trying to add HIGHMEMFIX=1 and add in the DISPLAY section I want to add WideViewAspect=True. I can build computers but am weak on software. I do not think FSX was installed correctly as I did not reboot before installing the Acceleration Pack. Is that the problem? And if I have uninstall FSX I'm supposed to delete the MSFX App Data Roaming file which does not show up when searched for either. Other then these problems FSX is starting to look pretty good with the PMDG777, I'm surprised, and I do not have REX or any other scenery addons yet.

Thanks, Brian

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX  This is for Windows XP

this is the file path, replace Yourname with what ever you named your computer. This is for Win7 and maybe  Win8

C:\Users\Yourname\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG

Hope this will help!

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm running Windows 7. When I type E:\ in search my FSX folder pops up, I named it FX, as soon as Users is added or Program Files my file disappears.

 Thanks

It won't be on the E:\ drive, it will be on the C:\ drive regardless of where you have FSX installed.

You first need to go to Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab and add a check to "show hidden files, folder, and drives".

While you are there remove the check from "Hide extensions for known file types".

Okay, guess I should stick to building computers, I have found the fsx.cfg and the graphics section way down. No HIGHMEMFIX , and I do not see how to add a line with the value 1. Getting close.

In the last line of the [Graphics] section (anywhere in the same section, really), simply add 'HIGHMEMFIX=1' without the quotes and save. Done.

Guest JustanotherPilot

Just add it to the [GRAPHICS] section

[GRAPHICS]
ForceFullScreenVSync=1
ForceWindowedVSync=1
GROUND_SHADOWS=0
HIGHMEMFIX=1             <----------------------------------------------------------Here it is in mine, add it anywhere under [GRAPHICS]  fsx.cfg using notepad
IMAGE_QUALITY=0
LANDING_LIGHTS=1
NUM_LIGHTS=8
See_Self=1
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024
TEXTURE_QUALITY=3

Man, what a great forum with people half way around the world from Florida, USA commenting. I figured it out, just put my mouse prompt typing symbol | , and hit enter and got a space. I found that all the stuff was under Config. FSX.Txt. Was wondering about JustanotherPilot's recommendations. I'm running a GTX550TI right now, have a GTX770 being shipped. This PMDG 777 is beginning to look pretty good, thinking about some scenery addons, REX is looking good for the price, Not sure the GTX770 will be worth the money, but most of the guides say a minimum of a GTX760.

If you edited FSX.cfg.txt you edited the wrong file.

In fact, you can safely delete FSX.cfg.txt.

The file you want is FSX.cfg (no .txt)

Okay thanks, my Win7 OS will not open my fsx.CFG file. I get a popup File Type Helper, when I click on Open this file using a software already installed. Then I get a Windows popup saying Windows cannot open this file, and ask what I won't to do. I've already gone into Files and Folders and checked Show hidden files and folders. None of the options work. I find building OC computers easier then this stuff, but I'm learning.

Thanks,

Brian

Right-click on the file and "Open with Notepad".  Does that option exist?

Right-click on the file and look for "Open with..."

Clicking on that will open a box where you will see more options. Select Notepad and make sure there is a check in "always use this for this file type".
