April 3, 201412 yr It always amuses me how many people on here whine about the start menu, especially in such a tweaking and modding centered community. People spend hours editing .air files, panel configs, joystick/yoke setups, freeware planes, fsx.cfg's etc etc etc... But they can't be bothered to download a simple freeware piece of software to get their ancient folding start menu back if they so desire.... To be honest.....Flight Simmers never really liked Windows in the first place. Before Flight Simulator 95 all you needed was MS-Dos and a Boot Disk with a custom Batch file that configured your rig to run MSFS with the best resources available. When MS released Windows 95 and MSFS 95 that changed everything.....and Flight Simmers were reluctant. It would be awesome if I could run Flight Sim today without a GUI based Operating System running in the background at all. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

You know, i've been trying for years to get FSX working in WINE so i could dump WIndows altogether. It just won't play ball. From my testing i doubt that even if you could get FSX working the various add ons just wouldn't, especially anything with 'phone home DRM'. I completely agree with you, ah how i remember the joys of Amiga Kickstarter not needing to run Workbench. Ian R Tyldesley

Well, there are programs out there that will let you dump explorer.exe as the shell and instead run your own shell. Meanwhile IIUC if you are on Win 8.1 you must take the update as it becomes a prerequisite for any future 8.1 patches. scott s. .
April 3, 201412 yr Author Like how you have to disable UAC in Windows 7 for anything to work? Or have to install a better antivirus program? No, and no. In all the years that I've used Windows 7 with FSX, I've never had to disable or lower the UAC levels. As far as antiviruses go, I'm not a dumb Internet user, so I don't really need to use an antivirus as I don't torrent or go to sketchy websites. However, I use Microsoft Security Essentials ever since it came out and I've never had a problem, or a virus. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
