Adding scenery to FSX scenery.cfg

Featured Replies

I've been FS simming for almost 15 years so have some clue as to how this stuff works, but have only been using FSX for about 6 weeks when i upgraded my PC.  I am presently having trouble adding scenery to the scenery.cfg within the FSX GUI.    I install scenery to the addon scenery directory, navigate to it, then select the files where the bgls are located. however FSX routinely tells me there are no files that match my selection.   What is this?

I also tried creating a separate directory outside of FSX with scenery in it, that I used to be able to use nicely under FS9.  Same problem.   FSX wont let me add scenery as far as I can tell.   I do have it running under windows 8.1 and I also have selected FSX as run as admin.   Not sure what the problem is...any help would be great.

Thanks

Eric

I has similar problem, but editing .cfg files were not applicable.

FSX GUI malfunction is showed up every Windows 8.1 operating computers. It would bypass clicking blank position on 'Open Directory' dialog.

Select the scenery folder, and click OK, and click somewhere blank. Scenery will added.

In the Addon scenery folder, you should have a number of named folders.

The named folders each need to have a Scenery and a Texture folder.

When adding scenery in the Options/World/Scenery Library dialog, you select one of these named folders.

Here's your answer, with the step-by-step procedure.

Exactly.  The problem is that when I do that, the sim says no files match and wont let me add.

In that case, go to Program Data\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.cfg

Add the scenery section by hand (make a backup first!)

Something like:

[Area.167]
Title=FlyTampa-Libraries
Local=Addon Scenery\FlyTampa-Libraries
Layer=167
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

Bert

It is not the problem explained in this video?

LOL. Kludgy as it is, it's SOP for adding scenery under WIN7. I'm always amazed when users somehow find their way past issues like this. Like who was the first person to discover that clicking in the empty space was the way to get it working? Simply brilliant.

Glad you got it working.
