Orbx Northern California Tour - Leg 12 - Bridges of San Francisco

Orbx Northern California Tour - Leg 12  -  Bridges of San Francisco

Flightplan: NCA Leg 12 - Sky Vector (127 nm / 2 hrs)

This final leg of the NCA Tour will take us on a scenic tour of the San Francsico Bay area with exciting landings on five bridges that cross the bay.

Starting at Half Moon Bay (KHAF) the route heads north over the Pacific coastline and heading to our first bridge landing on the Golden Gate Bridge.  You should configure your aircraft for landing as you cross the Presideo and land on the north bound lanes planning to stop before the middle of the bridge.  Once all have landed we will take off and fly under the Golden Gate Bridge, head towards Alcatraz, then turn north again Sausalito till reaching Alto, then turn for the mid span of Richmond – San Rafael Bridge where we will land in the westbound lanes of the bridge. Taking off we will fly under the bridge, turning back to the east to fly over the Richmond Chevron Refinery, then turn southeast to overfly Golden Gate Fields, before heading to the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge.  We will land on the new single towered eastern span in the westbound lanes being careful to avoid the converging suspension cables on our approach.  Taking off we will follow the roadway, climbing over Yerba Buena Island, then flying under the west span of the bridge between the bridge towers, then fly over Treasure Island before heading towards the piers on the San Francisco waterfront.  From the San Francisco waterfront we turn south following the bay coastline south past Hunters Point and Candlestick Park, over SFO, then landing at San Carlos (KSQL), the first airport landing in this leg.  Leaving San Carlos we head south and overfly the Stanford Linear Accelerator, then turn east and land Moffett Field (KNUQ).  From Moffet Field we fly across the salt ponds to the NUMMI plant in Freemont before turning west to the Dumbarton Bridge where we will land in the westbound lanes.  Watch out for the powerlines that parallel the bridge.  From the Dumbarton Bridge we fly directly to the mid span of the San Mateo Bridge (7nm northwest) and once again we land in the westbound lanes for out fifth and final bridge landing of this leg.  From the San Mateo Bridge our route heads 8nm north to waypoint VPCBT (Lake Chabot) passing near (but not landing at) Hayward Executive.  Turning west we fly 10nm to the site of Naval Air Station Alameda and land on the closed runways to complete the Northern California Tour.

If you're gonna break one rule, you might just as well break a bunch.

Totally spaced out remembering over this past flight. Will not be able to make the "bridges" tour :(  - working a benefit golf outing on Saturday barring rain, which doesn't look like it will happen. Have fun! Will have to do it over this week. Maybe under Duenna LOL!

A traffic 'copter would be perfect.

Jeff's Narrative for Leg 12 can be found at the DropBox location here. Lots of interesting details about the scenery that we'll encounter.

And here is a pair of YouTube links to a motor vehicle tour of some of the San Francisco area:

The images and sounds are highly recommended. Steve McQueen driving a Ford…

Just a bump since I replied to "Eleven"..

Bullitt - One of my favs... Back then they had a 35 gear transmission.. Up shift, Up shift .......... ( Really do like the movie)

I have forwarded every one of the "narratives" to my nieces who are just now reaching the 13 years. They both (twins) love everything you've written.  It seems they don't get that "raw, real" stuff that the classrooms are providing. Guaranteed an A in social studies next year as long as there is no plagiarism. And still they ask -- You do what?

Again thanks for the write ups, really wish to hit this one.

For Jeff's great Bridges of San Francisco, you can get an approximately accurate flightplan (in both FSX and Plan-G formats) here.  And if you want to improve your fellow pilots' experience,  you can let others know the name (title) and paint of your chosen aircraft here. (The latter being courtesy of Roman.)

I'm going to try to make this one.  I've updated the spreadsheet.

Here's my excuse for not joining you for this one:

I'll post photos if I get any good ones.

Enjoy your flight, don't fall off any bridges!

While you guys were in the air last Saturday, I was sitting for 2 1/2 hours in the car park waiting to get out following the Biggin Hill air show.

It was a good day for warbird fans! I've posted a few of the best photos (in spite of some murky weather) in the Real Aviation Photos forum:

Ah, I see. The .plns are usually posted up on the Teamspeak browser, so it's a case of joining us online.
