June 15, 201411 yr I bought P3D Professional about two weeks ago. Tried desperately to get it to work right. It screamed on my system at unbelievable FPS rates. Volumetric clouds were great. No tweaking. BUT... No PMDG, ASN P3D Beta kept crashing, and most of my FSX add ons were quirky. Couldn't stand going back to iFly 737 after NGX. My FDS CDU and CP Flight MCP and EFIS wouldn't work properly. Even my IRIS A-10A and F-15E wouldn't work right. Gave up. Knew it wouldn't be easy but this made me want to put a .40 caliber round through my system. Asked for my $200 back. Meanwhile, reinstalled FSX, ORBX, ASN, REX, and it just looks horrible. Posted up at FTX forums that I can't see FTX, it's remaining at default. Can't get the sucker to work. Even ASN will run but the Active Sky Weather theme is unavailable in FSX. I would love some useful advice right now. Nothing is coming together on this. Depressed, need scotch...
June 15, 201411 yr Pretty difficult to respond to a very negative post. I don't want to say anything that might help as it might not help and you'll become even more depressed and well.... :unsure:On a positive note, your PC has the right specs to run both P3D and FSX at the same time. Being biased, I wholeheartedly recommend setting up your FSX and NVidia settings as recommended in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide (located to the right under Hot Spots). :wink:When you start up FSX w/ASN running, your theme will be what's indicated on the bottom of the ASN setup program (live weather). Of course, if you had the ASN weather theme like I have you could click on that and get something else. Oh, I better stop here. It might not work... Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 15, 201411 yr Author Hi, Jim, Thanks, I've always used the setup and tweaking guides here and they've always worked. This time something is different. Like P3D stuck something in my C:\ or D:\ drive that isn't being deleted and I can't find it. I appreciate your advice, thanks. Here's the ASN issue. Say I look for airports with CB activity, last night was KMWM for example. So, I make a flight plan in ASN, KMWM ->KDAY as an example of what I did. I have the "waiting for simulator" at the bottom of ASN, and then after I start up FSX at KMWM, it's a clear sunny sky. Also, in picking the wx theme, there used to be an "Active Sky Weather Theme" that could be chosen from the wx in my previous install. It's not there. However, ASN says "Simulator running". The wx is not being injected. I'm going to keep going through the guides and hopefully can get it sorted. Also, before doing all of this, I also formatted and installed a fresh set of windows 7 64x. The root of all of this was that my FSX SSD just got too small so I pushed it up to 512Gb from 240Gb and raised my user files drive from a 1Tb mechanical to a 2Tb mechanical. Everything else stayed the same hardware wise. I also want to point out that in OPUS and FSUIPC I have the wx options off. It's not like me to get on here and b!#ch about my simulator. I went from an FSX install that was beautiful and never having OOM's to... this. I've never been so stuck in my life with this product. Worse, I did this to myself...

June 15, 201411 yr Just out of curiousity, and I'm sure after the reinstall of FSX you already accomplished this but, have you set the "default weather" to "User Defined" allowing ASN to control the weather you see or is it still set to "Clear and Sunny" the way a fresh install sets the config? Also, in picking the wx theme, there used to be an "Active Sky Weather Theme" that could be chosen from the wx in my previous install. It's not there. However, ASN says "Simulator running". The wx is not being injected. Just to be clear... ASN is now your default weather once you start it up and then FSX. You should not click on a weather theme or user weather defined or anything in fsx related to weather. Once you load FSX, the ASN weather should be loaded at that station and it will update usually every 15 minutes. You can go to Windowed mode and look at your ASN module and see at the bottom that live real time mode is loaded and running. It may take some time for it to download and run the live weather so be patient. But, if you clicked on user defined or any weather theme in FSX, you will not get real weather from ASN but that theme. I saw that ASN weather theme in FSX and it is just a weather theme that HiFi set up to show off their weather program and the clouds, etc. On my system it states ActiveSky dynamically created weather theme so it is not the real stuff. Do not understand why that theme was not added to your weather themes. Sometimes, when installing stuff and you have User Access Controls turned on and/or anti-virus programs, those programs may prevent the complete installation of the product on your computer thinking something or someone is installing something evil (well, FSX can be evil but that's another story  . Now I like to tell everyone having problems with installing/uninstalling FSX/P3D to look at the following guide - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx. For P3D, instead of Microsoft, it would be Lockheed Martin but otherwise the exact same locations where everything is installed. You can have P3D/FSX installed simultaneously so even if there are remnants of P3D leftover, it should not harm any FSX installation. You can't run them at the same time as I thought though as I just tried and was unsuccessful. I had FSX running and tried to load P3D and it said another Lockheed Martin program was already running. That's strange as both programs should be allowed to run. Perhaps it's because I have FSDT airports installed for both FSX and P3D. I always recommend running a registry cleaner like CCleaner after uninstalling FSX to make sure the registry is cleared of any entries. You did great with your upgrading of SSD and HDD's. A reinstallation of Windows is always good once in a while but it takes a while to get everything reinstalled and back to where you can enjoy FSX. Just take your time. Trying to take shortcuts is probably the worse thing you can do. Let me know if you have any more problems. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 16, 201411 yr You should not click on a weather theme or user weather defined or anything in fsx related to weather. What is it supposed to be on Jim ? I thought "User Defined " would be the default for ASN ? June 16, 201411 yr Hi Julian, My FSX does not go to User Defined when I have ASN running. I suppose it would make it clearer if it showed User Defined if you had ASN Real Weather running. I just go by what it states at the bottom of the ASN setup screen. If you click on User Defined it "might" stay on what is stated at the bottom of the ASN setup screen. It might not. I'm just stating what is happening with my FSX in relationship with ASN and I never touch the weather in FSX even though it states Weather Theme: Fair Weather. When I go to the airport, I have real weather running as it will be raining and that's not "Fair Weather". If you click on any of the weather themes, that weather theme will appear. Are you saying you are seeing User Defined instead of Fair Weather? Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 16, 201411 yr Well, my sim is not doing that but I am definitely getting real weather. In any case, the manual says it defaults to the Wx Mode depicted at the bottom of the ASN Command Center: Live, Historical, or Manual so don't think what it states in the FSX weather section means anything. I'm just trying to help Kevin and think I said everything right. Got an early tee time tomorrow so I'm out of here! LOL! Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
