June 15, 201411 yr My fps is great with Orbx England with UK2000 airports and I am fully immersed in my A2A Cherokee, amazing ride. I've been downloading some of the Orbx airfields and I'm finding, despite my decent system, that I'm being hit by OOMs after just 30 minute flights - a first for me. So I've ditched the Orbx strips fpr now and I'm flying great in England again. But I needed a break, and I thought I'd visit LA where I spent so much time on Infinite Flight, before I got hooked on FSX. Wow. I was impressed! I have FTX Global and UTX USA, with ASN weather. LA stretches forever, the smog limits visibility, I can see downtown LA skyscrapers looming in the distance. The highways, intersections, railways, the street grids and sheer number of buildings boggled my mind. Is this UTX? Or is it FTX Global? I wondered how Orbx could improve on the look of this. Flying out from freeware John Wayne over the Hollywood Hills to freeware Burbank, and then a trip back to John Wayne via a cheeky touch and go at freeware KLAX made it a great flight. Very impressed - but I'm not sure who to praise! - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
June 15, 201411 yr Get yourself Los Angeles by Aerosoft, you'll get some more airports in SoCal with it. Dirk.

June 16, 201411 yr Get yourself Los Angeles by Aerosoft" Killer on FPS - fyi FPS is quite good here even flying around KLAX by fsdt, just turn down the road traffic. I like the LA/KLAX addon combo very much. Dirk.
June 16, 201411 yr Commercial Member Get yourself Los Angeles by Aerosoft"Killer on FPS - fyi I agree with Dirk; I had no framerate issues with it at all, and although FSDT's KLAX does have a bit of a performance impact, it's still very much doable to combine the two. I actually quite like the Los Angeles addon for all the lit landing pads on the skyscrapers, makes flying helis there a blast. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
June 16, 201411 yr You need to manually remove the afcad and cvx files in the Orbx scenery folders for all the UK2000 and other addon airport sceneries you have. That is what is causing your OOM.
June 16, 201411 yr You need to manually remove the afcad and cvx files in the Orbx scenery folders for all the UK2000 and other addon airport sceneries you have. That is what is causing your OOM. Must be a good find. Could you post a link to the discussion on this subject? Thanks, Dirk.
June 16, 201411 yr No problems with FPS with Aerosoft LA scenery here (just picked it up) - as long as sensible settings appropriate to your system are used. In my opinion, nothing beats this scenery for LA, for getting the overall colour / tone of the sprawl right. Most are too green. Aerosoft LA is the perfect 'baked brown' that I saw from the air when I visited LA in 2006. Craig
June 16, 201411 yr Author You need to manually remove the afcad and cvx files in the Orbx scenery folders for all the UK2000 and other addon airport sceneries you have. That is what is causing your OOM. Thanks, but I've already pulled them out of the Orbx folder as I was getting a few scenery bleed throughs ... - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
June 16, 201411 yr Author I'm not here to discuss the OOM problem, I know ... but one thing I didn't do was remove the UK2000 AFCADS from the system for those Orbx airfields I had installed. I don't see how that could cause me a memory problem though.... I'm not too keen to buy more memory eating scenery, though thanks for the Aerosoft recommendation! I've got the perfect aeroplane and fps in the 40s and 50s when unlocked, so I'm just going to enjoy the ride I think and soak up the UTX/FTX Global combination. I'll have to try Ansari's Palm Springs freeware and fly through the Banning Gap. - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
June 16, 201411 yr Use Scenery Config Editor to disable ANY ORBX airports you have that you are not planning on using during your flights. The toll they take on VAS is immense. I used to get constant OOM's in ORBX land, but since I started disabling all of their airports other than my arrival and departure airport, they're a thing of the past.
June 16, 201411 yr Author Thanks MFD86, really? So if I flew from x to y, but ORBX airports a, b, c and d were 70-80 miles away, would they influence VAS? Mods, I won't go into the OOM prtoblem anymore, honest! - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
June 16, 201411 yr Thanks MFD86, really? So if I flew from x to y, but ORBX airports a, b, c and d were 70-80 miles away, would they influence VAS? Mods, I won't go into the OOM prtoblem anymore, honest! YMMV, but from my own experience, I can save anywhere up to 1GB of VAS usage by disabling everything ORBX that I'm not using. Always leave the FTXAA_AIRPORTS and FTXAA_ORBXLIBS enabled as I think that disabling these can cause issues, but I use Scenery Config Editor to disable everything else that I don't use during the flight. So for example if I am flying from Bozeman to Jackson Hole, I will not have Orbx England and all of the English airports enabled, same for Australia, same for Northern California, etc. My OOM's in ORBX regions are now pretty much a thing of the past, if you use complex add on aircraft as well as AI traffic etc, any VAS you can save is a big bonus, and this is the biggest way to save it that I've found. Also note this applies to any addon scenery, not just ORBX!
June 17, 201411 yr Thanks, but I've already pulled them out of the Orbx folder as I was getting a few scenery bleed throughs ... You have Vector version 1.15, ran the AEC auto configuration that disables the vector adjustments for all your addon airports, AND you removed the afcad from the UK folders?
