What does it take to run terrain/cloud shadows

Featured Replies

Because I noticed I gained about 30 fps when I dropped them....  30-60 large jump....

Cloud Shadow is a fps Killer! I have my set off, no way to run with this one on in V2,2 without getting very bad fps

I seem to have no issues with the cloud shadows.

Try this, turn down tesselation to low , turn off terrain shadows then push the cloud shadow distance out to 60,000, shadow map count to low

Also, it's been noted that Cloud Shadows at dawn/dusk are FAR more of a FPS killer than during the middle parts of the day.

I can usually have them on from 9am-3pm (in the Sim time of course), but it becomes un-doable on the fringe hours.

I believe it's something LM is working to fix a bit.

With the default planes 30 is alright... but a bit stuttery...

With addons it's absolutely not.  But I wonder how much of a role my 1.2GB of VRAM plays a role....

Probably quite a bit. Those items are GPU intensive and when the GPU maxes out, they start using CPU cycles which hits the FPS pretty good. I have two 780's in SLI and altho I still get a strong FPS drop, it takes longer for it to get there.

LM has stated that they've reduced some of the cost of the cloud shadows in version 2.3 so we'll have to wait and see.
