July 22, 201411 yr Commercial Member So I'm not missing out on anything if I just turn off auto alternates? I assume If I really really wanted updated weather for an alternate I could just turn it back on for that portion of the journey? The Auto Alternates option does not update the alternates weather forecast. It updates the list of the closest company preferred alternates (displayed in ALTN page 2/2). You can update the weather forecast for the 4 alternates displayed in ALTN page 1/2 anytime from the WXR REQUEST prompt at L6 Michael FrantzeskakisPrecision Manuals Development Grouphttp://www.precisionmanuals.com

So it's the change of the order of the alternates that is creating a new flight plan, therefore updating ASN's active flight plan and changing the weather. OK. So by turning off the 777 option to automatically update the alternates list I can get rid of ASN changing weather. Do you recommend leaving the option in ASN to auto load the FP to FSX turned on? This is an ASN thing so I'm going to monitor their forum for this topic. Thanks for your help.

July 22, 201411 yr If you turn it off, then you have to manually load the flight plan into ASN (from the ASN flight plan tab) to be able to get weather forecast data. OK cool. One more question and it's about the 777 this time  . If I CHECK the ASN auto load feature but keep the PMDG 777 Auto Update Alternate OFF, to me that means it won't update the flight plan on me every few minutes and should solve my "changing clouds" problem, correct? So I don't have to load the FP in ASN, and it should solve my annoyance? Thanks again Michael for the great info.
July 22, 201411 yr Author Guys, This weather stuff is pretty stupidly simple, so I'm really not sure why people are adding so much complexity to all of it. Load ASN. Do not use the auto-load feature in ASN (as mentioned in the other thread...why? This thread's results...). Load the FP (this step can wait until after the sim is loaded if you don't have the plan yet and are depending on the 777 to deliver one). Load FSX. Done. Everyone is adding so many crazy layers of complexity into all of this, and putting it off like there's a "right" or "wrong" way, and there isn't. Do what you need to do. For reference, here's what I do: Load ASN - leave it the [heck] alone. On my parallel computer, load PFPX and have it dump out a WX file and PLN (if I'm feeling too lazy to hand-enter my route) Load FSX. If I want updated wind, I tell PFPX to drop out a new wind file. All of this can be as complicated or simple as you want it to be. Depends on what you mean by "recalculate." If you mean, will the FMC properly readjust to your new entry? Yes. It's just the same as if you'd hand-entered the wrong FL, and then corrected it by overwriting it. thanks a bunch man Moe ELkarout
July 23, 201411 yr OK, I am a very old man and all this is very, very confusing...I downloaded and setup my new 777-300 at the Cleveland airport after looking at the radar page on weather.gov...There was a severe weather front passing through the area with TS...OK, I downloaded a trial version of ASN weather and filed a flight plan from Cleveland to Chicago just to see the action...I turn on the radar by pressing the AUTO button L/R buttons on the pedestal and WX button above the ND..A few minutes into my flight, I started to see some action out the window to the West...In a few minutes I was flying through clouds...Nothing on the radar...I could see rain out the window, but still nothing on the radar...I adjusted the tilt and gain on both sides, still nothing... Someone said to reinstall FSUIPC I didn't do that, but did delete the fsuipc.ini file then re-started FSX.... So would someone out there tell me actually what I should do step by step to get this package to work...Another thing too...When I turned up the gain on the radar my fps dropped from 30 to around 5 then down to 1...At that point I couldn't even use the mouse pointer any longer the program started to freeze up...I am running this program ASN weather on the same computer as my FSX program. My computer runs the I-7 extreme processor with 12GB of ram plus the machine with parts built 4 years ago cost around 4,000 dollars...Without the weather radar running fsx runs very smooth around 30fps...but now nothing works right...Any help would be greatly appreciated... I have the same problem as you with asn changing the weather when a new flight plan was created, however you can solve that problem by turning off the option to include the altn in the flight plan. You can still have the altn list updated just don't include them so the fp won't be recreated and loaded in asn. If you ever look at the map screen on asn if altn airports are included you will see the lines change to point to those airports. Pierre W

July 24, 201411 yr Hmm Mine doesnt do it anymore since I stopped the altn from getting included I'll play around with it more, but with both ALTN choices in the settings turned off mine still updates too often. I will report back sir.
January 29, 201511 yr In reference to post #9: I use FSINN and have noticed whenever the 777 makes a new FP and sends it off during the flight, my flight plan window in FSINN also gets updated with the new alternates and other waypoints, ...is it possible that flight plan in FSInn window won’t change when PMDG generate WX.pln while flight? (I have installed the newest versions of PMDG777 and ASN) Lukasz Trzaskowski
