Fellow X-Plane simpilots opinions wanted

Featured Replies

Alright so here we go, I love skymaxx pro they have done such an incredible job with the clouds/shadows/sun/sky etc.... However for some reason I always find myself uninstalling it and using the default clouds with the Datarefs editor to set cloud shadows/hue/atmospheric scattering and such. And end up in the end sitting here and uninstalling and reinstalling skymaxx pro v2 because I am always on the fence of what I prefer. I just wanted to ask all the X-Plane simmers opinions on what they prefer? For me something that really helps me with immersion is the fact that when a cloud comes over and my airplane/cockpit the cockpit also goes dark and so far I haven't been able to get that with the new skymaxx pro... What makes you as a simmer feel like your more immersed (if you will) in the Sim?

Short and Sweet

What do you prefer as far as cloud settings/Atmospheric scattering settings/shadows?

What makes you feel more immersed into a sim? (it can be anything, not just limited to cloud shadows)

I have to use Skymaxx Pro because I find performance without it awful. Before Skymaxx Pro, I would simply have to fly in clear weather all of the time, but now I can have clouds, shadows, water reflections etc and not have my frame rate plummet.

For feeling more immersed, it's a combination of good realistic scenery, lighting and also (often neglected) sounds from the engines. Nothing kills immersion for me more than flying over unrealistic scenery with blurry textures and bad, low quality engine sounds.

I couldn't have put it better myself. I have to say though that if Ben gets the default clouds sorted performancewise I would much prefer them. The shadows are much better.

Mrchsrider,

Whats stopping you from using smp and those atmospheric tweaks together?

They work well in conjunction with SkyMAXX....

I was wondering the same as I run RTH and SkyMAXX together also. No way the default clouds look/perform as well as Skymaxx.

Something I also neglected to add to my post also is good sound quality! If you get a good headset and some realistic sounds that definitely adds to the immersion.... Blurry scenery textures I also could not have said it better myself haha thats why I didn't in my first post. Thanks for replying I like to see how people tick as far as immersion in their own sims go.

So that is a great point and this might seem petty, but the only thing that is stopping me from using the atmo scattering tweaks with Skymaxx pro is the fact of being in the cockpit under cloud coverage and still seeing the sun on the dash of the instruments... haha I know its petty but for me its one of those things that gets at me...

And your absolutely right, the skymaxx clouds are second to none in performance and they look incredible.... so mostly its just the shadows that I described above... that adds to the immersion for me.
