  1. I feel I have been poorly treated by a particular member of the Avsim staff. Anyone who reads any of my postings can decide for themselves if I am the unreasonable kind. In this case I feel the staff member was unreasonable but there is nothing I can do about that other than to think it is a shame as I quite like Avsim and am a regular contributor. So it is with regret that I ask that my account be deactivated. I know I will not be missed, I'll try not to let the door hit me on the way out.
  2. I was shocked to see that you are right. I didn't think photoscenery would take so much but it fills 4Gigs for me and asks for more. That's rather a pain.
  3. Thanks. The reason I ask is I see you have really good framerates in the video and I wondered why. I use ZL18 scenery for Ireland and I find it really cuts down the frames, down to 17-19 over Dublin, 30's at best. I also suffer with it from micro-stutters that destroy the immersion. Without the scenery everything is hunky dory, no stutters, fps 30-60 depending on where you're looking in the A320neo. I wonder do you see anything similar on mainland UK with your setup and what zoom level are you using?
  4. @FSProUK, could you tell us your pc specs?
  5. I doubt that you'll notice your money in the switch but would be interested to hear how you fare if you go ahead with it.
  6. I didn't realise that could be done, please let us know how you get on.
  7. It certainly would be a worthwhile purchase if it is.
  8. Does tweaking art controls rely on Fly with Lua or can it be done some other way? I want to get rid of beaches permanently.
  9. I hadn't realised the lego brick system could produce such results, wow!
  10. The problem is once you do, you find you can't go back.
  11. Seriously impressive! All the more so when the author gives it away. I really love the fact that this sort of community spirit is still evident around the X-Plane platform. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for quality payware addons but when they dominate to the point where the freeware community is drowned out, some essential facet to the hobby is lost. X-Plane is inclusive in that way, you can contribute something you made yourself, I like that! Seeing something in the sim that you made yourself, whatever it be, gives great satisfaction. Well done Sir!
  12. That's impressive even before it's ready!
  13. I wonder is it a reasonable assumption to say that most of the X-Plane users might not be Avsim users given the popularity of the .org and therefore the Avsim survey might not reflect the actual XP userbase numbers at all?
  14. It can take a while to get comfortable with the setup but once you find the sweet spot that gives best framerate with best settings on your system there will be little or nothing that you should ever have to change other than joystick/button assignments. As for money, I've found that I've spent very little compared to that required for the other sims to get them up to scratch. SkyMaxxPro and whatever aircraft I've bought with a donation here and there to some of the better freeware projects (g2xpl, World2XPlane). There will come a point where "jump into a cockpit and hit the gas" is very easy to just do. There eventually came a point for me where I just couldn't bear to fly the others at all, they just weren't right even having spent large amounts on them. Stick with it, you'll likely not be sorry.
  15. The solution is G2xpl, create your own. Personally I find the combination of hi-def (ZL18) photoscenery and World2XPlane far surpasses any other setup but I am lucky enough to live somewhere where the available scenery is excellent being perfectly color matched. I fly low and slow in Ireland/UK only to marvel at it and have limited myself to that area so that the scenery can be fit on a 3TB drive. Each to their own.
  16. Daily limit for Google is very small, there is supposed to be workaround but it seemed more hassle than it's worth as you continue to hit the limit with every reset operation. Quality varies but Bing is every bit as good as Google and once set up you can just run g2xpl and forget about it until it's done and the scenery is automagically in your sim.
  17. Google ban pretty quickly. Bing don't ban afaik.
  18. In fairness, making your own photoscenery is not hard with G2XPL.
  19. The i5 is a great processor for overclocking, you should be able to get 1Ghz above stock on air without any troubles, that alone will make a big difference. Does your board have a UEFI interface or is it all done through BIOS?
  20. I haven't read this thread tbh but as soon as I saw the title it hit me. With a half hour I'd do an engine failure on takeoff and return to the field.
  21. You have to recut the .dsf's with g2xpl to do that. It won't work properly otherwise.
