  1. Well at least some of their actual servers were seized so unless they had physical backup servers offsite somewhere then they are probably down for good. Are you sure it's up or are you using a mirror?
  2. I use photoscenery at zoom level 18 and found I needed more than 8. I was using 8 with an i5 at the time. I bought another 8 before realising my cooler got in the way of the last stick so could only use 12 but that did the job.
  3. "We also decided to grant the exclusive license to Outerra engine to TitanIM for military use (direct or indirect use by the military), to secure its position, since we are already participating on it quite closely." It does seem a bit contradictory alright. I'm surprised Cameni hasn't been on to provide some clarification.
  4. It would seem to be there in black and white alright. That sucks! Money talks at the end of the day I suppose.
  5. Worked fine for me, thanks for the pointer, certainly one to keep an eye on. I like it too.
  6. That SCSE is wonderfully impressive and a sign of what's to come in XP. These kinds of animations will need to become the norm in payware sceneries now just to compete with freeware.
  7. Can I ask why Jim out of curiosity? Has their popularity waned? If so is it seen in Avsim as a symptom of a declining market?
  8. That board should have an overclocking section in the bios. I have that cpu comfortably running at 4.4 on air. It does make a big framerate difference. Certainly worth doing and the 'K' series are made to OC. Check if you have the ASRock’s overclocking and hardware monitoring utility, which allows users unfamiliar with or scared of UEFI changes to attempt an overclock within Windows
  9. I managed to blag a cirrus yoke some years back. It was Jeppesen branded and was used by trainee pilots in the organisation I worked for at the time before they purchased what was the same equipment but with USB plugs instead of the serial that this yoke had. It was a large organisation and evidently it never dawned on anyone that a simple adapter would have sufficed. Yay me! Anyhoo, I eventually gave it away because of it's bulk and use a simple Saitek one now. The cirrus yoke felt right in the hands but essentially only did the same job as it's cheaper rivals. I don't feel the need to defend my purchase as some might do because I got it free. The upshot of all this is that I would not have thought it worth it if I had had to pay big bucks for it. Each to their own though, my assessment of the comparative worth will differ from others.
  10. What sort of system have you got and what sort of average framerate are you getting? Did you notice a big benefit from 4K?
  11. Nice set! X-Plane can't be beaten for night flights in particular.
  12. It might be possible to remove the drive from its enclosure and use it in an internal bay in order to recover what you need. Check youtube for videos of this being done.
  13. I view the lack of AI as a worthwhile sacrifice for the sake of a better overall simulation, I just use Overlay Editor to park statics at the fields I fly to/from. I always found it annoying to have to wait in a line of AI for a runway slot in FSX/P3d but each to their own I suppose. I see the lack of AI as allowing for other more useful effects. As for the other regular complaint from users or those who won't use because of its lack, I just use http://www.liveatc.net/ in the background to provide a real ATC soundtrack to the flight which I find much more convincing than any of the ATC products I've ever had the misfortune to purchase. There's nothing like listening to real pilots communicate with real controllers around the fields used in your flight, very convincing. When looked at form a wider perspective I think that overall, XP just has more to offer the simmer who goes further than just downloading the demo which, let's face it, doesn't show how well XP can look and perform with a few simple, cheap or free addons tacked on to it. It certainly applies though that you need to purchase good addon aircraft to get the proper effect in all its glory but that applies to all flight sims.
  14. Very impressive! X-Plane is really in a league of it's own these days. Matt
  15. I've used AVG for the past two years. It produces no more false positives than any other imo and I've tried all the majors. If you don't set it up to your liking when you install it you can't really complain when it bites you in the a**.
  16. What makes you think X-Plane is going backwards?
