Will FS Registry Repair help with this?

Featured Replies

I intend to upgrade my MB and CPU and currently have FSX installed on a dedicated SSD

After installing the new MB And CPU and reinstalling W7 on a different SSD, will I be able to avoid having to reinstall FSX (and 400GB of addons) by running the FS Registry Repair utility which, If I understand it correctly, reinstalls the FSX registry links.

FSX installs some things to Windows, so not usually, unless you were cloning your old Windows install, which is not a good idea in your case.

FSX, yes, any of your addons that write to the registry, no.

I am on a Vista Win64 install from 2 motherboards ago. Cloned the first time, 2nd MB install, I just made sure the OS drive was boot drive. After few reboots for Windows to detect and settle things in with new MB drivers, I had no major issues and saved TONS of time, each time.

Maybe I got luckly. Your mileage may vary.

To me its worth a try to either clone or make sure boot drive stays boot drive with MB change.

And backup before any major changes of course.

Some Addons have copy protections that are tied to certain HW components when installed so you may find a few that need reinstalling.
