If I find something, a chance stumble-upon happening in my flight simming, it is a quick post to the forum, so others, if they so wish, can check it out on their systems.

And many thanks for that.  Your enthusiasm for flight simulation makes this forum a better place to be.

Back 'atcha, Smpetty...coming to AVSIM each day and reading posts from yourself, and all other contributers, is a main-stay in my life. It keeps the mind active, and adds in great quantity, to the joy of this hobby!

It also, in my case, adds to the bottom line of Maxwell House....they should place adds on AVSIM!

A very tightly "zoomed in" view is the correct one for a natural viewing angle within the monitor's bezels.  However, if you're limited to a single monitor (like me... roll-top desk with limited space inside), you've then lost your peripheral vision which is oh-so important to VFR flight and landing flares.  To me, .6 or .7 is a reasonable compromise.

Wide view aspect on or off?

I use a zoom level of 1.0 with wide view aspect on. This is the most realistic view and it gives me a much better feel for speed and distance. It also allows me to read the gauges and switch positions without zooming or squinting. If I didn't have TrackIR, however, I would open up the view a bit to 0.7 or so. TrackIR allows me to look around and gives me back the peripheral vision that I lose with the higher zoom ratio. I really can 't imagine flying without TrackIR. It's as essential as the throttle and yoke/joystick to my flight sim experience.

I tried it too and gained 2fps. I think the gain is more because of the view showing slightly less than before. I think I will leave it off.

Hmmm... tried it here and, zero difference in frame rates.

No difference. As said above any changes probably due to changes to the amount of stuff in the viewing area. Use Zoom and you can get back to the the "wide view" with a high probability that there is no change.

Oh, lol, of course I forgot to include a rather critical bit of info...

I run Wide View aspect since I have a wide aspect ratio monitor.
