Probably a dumb question, but still...

I am wondering if its at all possible to assign a sound file (.WAV) to pushing a button (say VHF1 or PA on the radio panel) in the Virtual Cockpit of any of the payware aircraft we have available.

I Should add, while I can fly the things pretty darn well, I am no kind of programmer or designer.

As an example, on the 737 the no smoking and seatbelts button produce a ding.  That's just a wave sound.

Now someone produced a couple of wav files which were cabin announcements and it was just necessary to backup the no smoking and seatbelts ding and rename these 2 wav files to replace them.  It worked fine.

So it must be possible to do it, but someone with more expertise needs to chime in with how.  possibly just an additional line in the panel cfg.

Actually, there is a file in the library for FS9 but it works in FSX. It's basically a 2D cabin announcements panel. I think it's called FDSFX. Search for it in the library. I use it with all my planes.

Take a look through here and see what it takes to add the switch sounds you are looking for.

dsd_sound_gauge from Doug Dawson offers the ability to add sounds to almost everything. Some freeware and payware authors also use it happily.

Takes a bit of reading and testing to make it work since it's very detailed but it's free and you can get it from the library.

What about if the 3D switch doesn't have a sound file by default? There is some startup levers I need to assign a sound file on a certain aircraft to make my experience 100% complete. As this sound is very loud in reality and always heard.

Unless you know the XML variables that custom-coded cockpit switches use, it is impossible to add sounds to any of them.

Switches triggering default system functions (landing gear or so) can still be equipped with sounds though. Check out Daniel Gauthier's "Cockpit Sounds v2" in the library here.

My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

Hi

As posted by Thenerd, download the FDSFX, from the library, and you can download all kind of wavs, to match whatever sound you like to hear. There is all kind of sounds for various airlines in the library too.

Good luck
