Autothrottle engage after a GO AROUND

Featured Replies

Ok a question on the A/T on the GO Around.

CAT I app

You disengage the AP + A/T at MUH then ATC tells you to go around.

On the 737, the 2 engine go-around function requires

1. a decision to go-around.

2. Use of toga. 1 press = a more gentle climb, 2nd press gives you the full performance, which you probably won't need in most cases.

3. A call- 'Go around-flap15'

When you hit toga, the go around sequence has begun, you fly the LNAV go around procedure.

Get the positive rate- gear up.

Flaps will be bugged, and retracted as you pass the bug (speed tape)

When do i arm the autothrottle again once i initiate the go around procedure?

What about flap retraction? When will i retract flaps from flaps 15?

That's airline specific. There's no reg for that (at least FAA/TERPS) so you can pick a number. 500? 1000?

We use 500.

If i select HDG at 400 it kicks me out at ALT ACQ if i select LNAV at 400 it changes to HDG at ALT ACQ

aahhh jeeso i have spent 2 hours reading manuals etc before i posted on this lol.

also i found something else. once i execute a MAP i follow the FMC missed app track then i link it with a TRANS back to the runway after i level off at 3000 during the missed app procedure there is a waypoint in the TRANS for 6000. I'm in VNAV and LNAV and when i level off for 3000 in the FMA changes to VNAV ALT so i try to select ALT INV to make it climb but it doesn't climb? is this also a bug?

Our procedure on a two engine go around is to stay in the TOGA F/D pitch mode all the way to level off altitude.  The F/D will bug the speed up based on your flap position.  We stay in the F/D and start retracting flaps on schedule when the airspeed is above the 15 bug.

What about the pitch mode... 1500?

The pitch mode remains in TOGA until you reach the selected altitude upon which it will change to ALT HOLD.  If for some reason we are climbing to a higher altitude than your typical missed approach altitude than we can select VNAV or LVL CHG after the airplane is clean.

That's just our procedure, others may vary.

Just for reference:

If you don't find it in the manual, it usually means it's your (airline) discretion.  In the case of the manual, though, it's usually just vague on the topic and only specifies certain things, while leaving others out.  What it leaves out is discretionary.
