September 19, 201411 yr Thanks a lot! 1) And yes, if both FMGS fails, and you enter VOR 1's frequency and VOR 2's frequency in RMP 1 and RMP 2, and the CRS/TRK, which one will it follow the VOR 1 first, and then VOR 2? Same question: If both FMGS fails, and you enter ADF 1 in RMP 1 and VOR 2 in RMP 2, and the CRS, will it go first to ADF 1 and then to VOR 2? Ok, which part of 'use heading mode' are you not comprehending? The autopilot of an airbus or boeing will not track any of that. 'It' won't 'go' to anything. Ok, you have lost both FMGS. My question was: Why do I have to tune a VOR/ NDB frequency?? My answer was: To know your CRS with the selected VOR. My question to everyone: Am I right? This is a general question, C-172, A330... Thanks While the s-tec autopilot of a c172 may be capable of tracking a vor course, the flight guidance systems of boeings and airbus' are not. The only way to 'follow' a vor or ndb course in one of these jets is to do it by hand.
September 19, 201411 yr Author Hi, this is not my question (I have understood that!) I just would like to confirm why we need to enter VOR/ NDB frequencies IF WE LOSE FMGS! It is to know how you are placed with the tuned waypoint, am I right? Airbus A330-203
September 19, 201411 yr Author Thanks, Basically you won't know these informations: http://en.wikipedia.org.advanc.io/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Vor_indicator.png if you don't enter the frequency! Airbus A330-203
September 20, 201411 yr why we need to enter VOR/ NDB frequencies IF WE LOSE FMGS As Kevin was trying to explain - we DON'T NEED to enter anything. We can ask for vectors to the nearest airport and land. Michael J.
September 20, 201411 yr Author What do you mean by vector? From VaoR to VOR to NDB....? Or just changing HDG manually? Airbus A330-203
September 20, 201411 yr "Vectors" mean that ATC will tell you the direction you have to fly, so basically yes, you change HDG manually. Vectors don't have anything to do with VORs or NDBs. Florian
September 20, 201411 yr Author Ok so if you are in an Airbus, with the FMGS, you just have to enter it in the FCU, it will useGPS INS/IRS to follow it. If you don't have FMGS, you will have to fly the correct HDG by looking at your ND. Isn't it? Airbus A330-203
September 20, 201411 yr Vector command: "XX123, fly heading 230" Dial the round knob until the display says 230 and be in heading select and check that your aircraft is listening to you. Or, just fly manually. Whatever you have to do to fly heading 230 ...
September 20, 201411 yr Author Thanks, So when you are flying manually, where do you read your HDG in an Airbus? On the ND, don't you???? Airbus A330-203
September 20, 201411 yr Commercial Member Thanks, So when you are flying manually, where do you read your HDG in an Airbus? On the ND, don't you???? PFD,ND,FCU,ADIRU,MCDU,standby compass. plenty of places to obtain current track & heading.. Here's a question for you. Since you are on a flightsim site, and you have very basic knowledge about aircraft, why don't you use the default Cessna & A321 in FSX? This will at least teach you the basics. Rob Prest
