Need sound advice

Featured Replies

Need to buy a new speaker sound system for FSX - Looking for something that it's not very large but will reproduce the various sim sounds well, something like a 5.1 system or even a 2 speaker set.

Some suggestions and feedback from users much appreciated.

Thanks

Joaquin Blanco

Not really, basically looking for speakers that will capture as much sound detail as possible. Do you  have make/models in mind?

Thanks for your reply.

If you want to capture sound, you'll be better off with a microphone... :P

I've got the Logitech X-230 2.1 set, for like 60euros (several years ago, so I'm not sure if they still make those). But for such price you can have a pretty decent sound in 2.1 pc speaker sets, but it's just what you're expecting and what you want to spend.

Not sure what you've got in mind with 'not very large', but if you're looking for real detail, I know plenty of guys who use self-powered studio spearkers, like the Alesis Monitor One, for example. But they are a little bigger than the satelites from a pc speaker set. Prices range from around 100euros for the Alesis Monitor One 320, up to... As much as you want. In sets of 2 or more, ranging from good sound, to perfect sound.

Cheers!

Maarten

If you're looking for perfect perfect sound detail, indeed studio monitors might be a good choice (the Presonus Ceres and Presonus Eris speakers come to mind here. I own the latter but I use them for studio work not FS).

For FS I've used a set of Eagle Tech Arion 2.1 speakers for a while, worked well but very bass heavy...I think you might find that with many budget 2.1 speaker sets. Now I have 5.1, but an old Sony system from '00 or '01. :P It works well though.

What's your price range? With that I can maybe recommend some specific sets.

I'm always looking for sound advice  . You might want to look at the Bose® - Companion® 2 Series III. A bit pricey (USD$99) but the sound is superb.

Well the finest sound is going to come from audiophile/studio quality headphones such as the Audio Technica ATH-M50x.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yesterday I visited a Shop in London specialiasing in HiFi and all different kinds of speakers, etc. After several demonstrations of different 2.1 speakers I decided to purchase the Cambridge Audio Minx M5 multimedia speaker system which comes with incorporated DAC. The sound was excellent and detailed considering the speaker size and I was extremely impressed. Total cost 100 British Pounds. Unfortunately I couldn't find anywhere the Eagle Tech Arion 2.1 in the UK, funny enough also had a look at the Bose Companion 2 & 3, the latter being quite a bit more expensive but the design very similar to the Cambridge Audio I bought. Never considered Headphone because I already have a very good headset which I only use to communicate with Vatsim ATC. At this very moment flying on Vatsim with PMDG T7 and have to admit I am hearing sound details I've never experienced before with any of my previous speaker sets.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your input which was much appreciated.
