Just looked some things up to verify, and it seems, from an official perspective, that Windows 7 is in the same boat as Windows 8 (cannot run 1.1). I thought it contained it since the installer requirements said Vista or earlier, but that was actually due to incompatibility, not the presence of the package. My apologies on that one. I've edited my original post to reflect this info.

So, you'll either have to look up one of the (somewhat complex) workarounds to install .NET 1.1 on Windows 7, use Windows Vista, or get EditVoicePack X which supports a newer .NET.

He didn't say anything about there being an issue getting it installed in Win 7?  It's a problem?  How is it doen then?

EditVoicePack X doesn't work with FS9 though, right?  It is only FSX.

Correct and both EVP versions will run just fine under Win 7.

So, I installed FSX on my laptop & all was good. P3d was another story, as the installer said I did not have DX11.

Must the hardware be DX11 complient for all to work? Or will DX11 software be OK?

If my laptop's GPU is not DX11 complient, then DX11 download will not work & I cannot use P3D?

Correct, P3D requires DX11 Hardware and Software.

According to Lockheed Martin http://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv2/LearningCenter/getting_help/getting_help.html#VideoCards

As of version 2.1, Prepar3D includes limited down-level DirectX 11 support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 10.1 level hardware provided the video card has DirectX 11 drivers. When rendering on down-level hardware, some features will not work:

  • Tessellation is not supported. The terrain will not render on a down-level device if Tessellation is enabled in the UI. Tessellation should be disabled unless Prepar3D is running on more than one video card and at least one video card supports DirectX 11. For example a DirectX 11 card can render the terrain in one view while the DirectX 10 card renders a virtual cockpit view. The virtual cockpit view will not show the terrain out the window of the cockpit.
  • Shadows are supported but will not perform as well or look as good.

With or without .NET 1.1 installed?

Just rememeber that win will only display the latest DX version even if you have others installed. EVP works fine/

With or without .NET 1.1 installed?

Without.

Awww, so, without DX11 hardware & with DX11 soft, I cannot use P3Dv2.4. There is no hardware emulation, so, I have to use an older version of P3Dv1.4. Still, an improvement, in my eyes, of FSX.

Thats on my 3 year old Windows 7 64bit 4GB laptop.

I got given an entry level Windows 8 laptop at work, but only 2GB ram, really an entry level thing & its not worth throwing money at it to make it work.

Thanks for the info.

Regards,

Robin

Jim, I just tried to install EditVoicepack 3.1 and it said it still needs .NET 1.1.

Because Jim is pretty knowledgeable and I thought he said he'd done it.  Plus, the developer won't get back to me.
