Featured Replies

do you like long haul flights like 5 hours or more? i use WhazzUp alot to see where everyone is flying and notice alot of people are flying continent to continent or further. like from NY to Buenos Aires, flights like that. LOL, amazing. makes me want to try a few and wanted to get some "positive" feedback on these type of flights. seems like they could be fun. talk to me. william

they are fun,but you need time to do them.i regularly hop over the pond,or the pacific,on VATSIM.that is great fun, even the planning part is cool.and, since i fly a DC8 with INS navigation,i'll have to stick around to watch the airspeed(dc8 has no autothrottle, but mine does have tcas :-hah ),and punch some numbers into the ins.i think i would be bored if i did it with an FMC equipped plane though, when all you have to do is watch the progress page.tataJP.

Nope, I'm a bush pilot at heart. We don't usually take flights that are more than an hour, possibly a half hour. :DI do, on occasion, fire up one of the big monsters but rarely finish a flight with them. I'm content to get them up in the air and tootling along. :D

I mostly fly short to medium hauls (very often PMDG, ofcourse). But every once in a while I make a complete long haul, just to fly the heavies (you can fly heavies in japan in SHORT HAULS, but I like them to be flown a greater distance.) And I like to take a little single prop for a scenery-spin occasionally too! =)

I rarely have time to fly longer than 4-5 hours unless it's a weekend and even then it's hard to find the time. But I enjoy long haul flights, flying around the US makes it easy to fly 5 hours, or if I get bored in the middle of the flight, I can pick an airport around and land there instead.

It depends on my mood and the day of the week. During the week the most I'll fly is 2.5 hours. On the weekends, I'll fly about 6 hours maximum.

I used to do really long hauls from US to Europe. Then I got into short flight of about 200 miles or so using 737's and ATR's In the alst several months I have started bush flying using Alaska, Misty Fjords and Canada, mostly VFR.

I fly mostly small planes in FS, from ultralights, single GA to perhaps the Citation II once in a while. My longest flights are always under 3 hours, I find anything over 2 hours brutally boring. Each to their own though.

My flights are up to 2-3hrs, mainly in the Misty fjords area.CYVR-PAKT etc with the PMDG B1900C or the F1 ATR 72-500.But mostly I fly the bushplanes for shorter hops for the Alaskan Air Travel VA.I flew ENBR to JFK once back with FS3 for over 6 hrs, can you imagine that!!Johnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/aat.jpg ][/div

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I do long hauls once in a while. Of course "long haul" can be relative, I took a Navaho from KABE to Bermuda once... There is a certain challenge in taking a plane to the limit of its range especially to an island. Took a Hawker from KABE to Zurich, Switzerland, toured in a Cessna 172 then hopped in a Pilatus to tour Italy. One round the world flight so far, KABE to KSFO to Hawaii, Island hopping to Sydney Australia then Ayer's Rock then Perth, a British territory island (Dubai?) in the Indian Ocean, then Entebe, Uganda, Morrocco to Tegel in Germany. My brother was there, he told me his flights and I followed it. Tegel to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to KPHL then KABE. Now I have a PMGD 777, planning to RACE my bro across the pond next time. Would like to do a polar circumnavigation sometime in a Piper Malibu with extra fuel, touching all the continents except Asia and Greenland. Waiting for Squawkbox to provide real world weather independent of Vatsim for FLY 2, or maybe I'll just do it on Vatsim. Yes, you can do polar flights in FLY 2. It might not be safe in real life, but I read on long flights usually. Not all my flights are long, most actually are local IFR sessions with 200 foot ceilings and anywhere from 1 to 1/4 mile vis. Most of my flights would be illegal in real life- like KAVP in the soup.Best Regards, Donny:-wave

It's not for everybody--but if you're that somebody it's a lot of fun.

LOL, thanks to each and every one of you for your replies.i have to say i agree with everything said. i've been flying the heavies alot but every time i read something or anything about GA aircraft, i feel a tug in that direction and it is becoming difficult to fight. time is a big factor with long hauls and so far my longest has been about 4 hours, not to bad for me. thanks again guys! william

If you want to try another flight where you push the limits, try a Lear to HI... from SFO Did it once, but from then on, used a Citation X.For are real long haul flight that I used to make with a VA from SFO to Australia... several years ago. Fastest time I can remember, was about 13 hours.

I used to fly long haul all the time (like once a week) but I got bored with that. Now I hardly flight anything longer than 1,500 miles.
